 [PF TEK] First Grow - PE & Amazonian

So, last week I got my first mushrooms! Some sweet sweet PE. I actually grew them outside from one 1/2 pint BRF cake mixed with coir in a small planter. I managed to harvest at least a quarter ounce dry. Those babies took over a month to pin!

the only thing i would say is maybe wait a little longer for them to cool down before inoculating. 3 hrs seems a little short but i never did do the temp test at different times cause just said f it but i am curious as to the internal temps like 1-2-3-4 hours after being taken from the PC. just to know.
well we will see if 3 hrs is enough i guess. i think myc dies at lower temp than spores so if an LC makes it at 3 hrs spores would be fine.

if you do PF jars again, flame in between each inoculation point instead of just every jar.

Good luck on your first grow!! And if you have a dry verm barrier in your jars, then there is really no need for the micropore tape. Your verm will act as a filter and protect the brf cake from airborne contams.

Ok, Iv had second thoughts on some things. That was one of them, I just removed the tape... it was a bitch. I will keep cooling in mind next time, Ill test out the other four jars in a day or two... maybe 3...

You did not need to remove the tape. He was just saying it was not necessary to use in the future. Try not to disturb the jars after inoculating. A shifting verm barrier is not good.

 I meant for future reference. But, you'll be okay, your verm barrier should be deep enough that no contams can seep through. Just leave them on a shelf to colonize and check back in a couple of days.

*facepalm* I had a feeling... I will remember that next time! I'v been considering spawning to bulk for the 2nd flush if all goes well, if possible any suggestions?

Do not spawn to bulk after a flush. Either do it out of the gate or not at all. That is asking for contams and the mycelium may not switch gears from fruiting mode to beat the bad stuff.

Technically you can do PF to bulk transfer, but still I say grains FTW.

Fully-colonized grains will beat brf as spawn any day. Making sure it is clean is the biggest challenge when going to bulk. That's why agar is highly recommended, you get to SEE clean growth before transferring it to your grains and then to your bulk sub. i've never done oysters so i couldnt tell you about the yeller syringe BUT...
as far as other things go you really should use your SAB. it is not necessary with brf jars but you will have better success in the long run using your SAB and its good practice for when you move up because you eventually will if you keep growing and you will need to be smooth in a box.
the soot form a candle is fine it wont harm nothing but try getting an alcohol lamp anyway just cause its cleaner and feels more professional causing your confidence to grow and therefore technique improve and results improve...fact.
70% alcohol is the preferred strength, it works better than 90% for killing the bad stuff, there is a scientific reason behind it if you want to read up on it.
and you realy dont need to flame the needle between each hole in one jar. i've heard a few say they do it but i always just flamed between jars and that seems the way to go.

The substrates in the jars do not look properly prepared. The PE look possibly bacterial . Can you explain your whole procedure and what exactly is happening here?? Your sun just looks off and sick
My original advice was to start new jars.

I followed Lets Grow Mushrooms!
I had a bit extra verm in the PE jars than I should have... but I also ground up brown rice to make BRF. I sterilized with a PC for 90+ mins and let cool for at least 3 hours, probably 4 to 5.
When he says "looks like you already got a cup in there" and before hand it says 2 cups, so I thought he had a total of 3 cups, but of course after mixing I realized he actually only has 2 cups of verm. I could definitely be short on BRF for my jars tho...
