Close talkers, bad breath, and professional relationships. 5

I'm struggling to do my best to maintain a positive working relationship with an individual who is key to making my workday less stressful. It seems that this same person is unknowingly adding stress because of their need to close talk.
7:40AM - I am already in my zone at work looking at design drawings for a hospital trying to figure out how to freaking engineer the chilled water piping for the HVAC system into the crazy architect's design. (I'm a mechanical engineer). I'm fighting ceiling clearances, wall cavity space sizes and trying to factor in the actual work space for the desks, beds, cabinetry,--uuuuugh and ADA requirements.........
Enters Mr. C..... Walks in, throws his huge silver oversized vibrator looking coffee thermos on his desk, and makes a bee line to my office. I'm like damn, we move into a different office building and get real offices, people still act like we are in a huge room with cubicles.
Close Talker: "Still working on the hospital"
Me: I'm trying to not look up to answer: "Uh Huh"
Dare he go, he ACTUALLY WALKS UP BEHIND ME SITTING AT MY DESK and gets closer then leans over to look over my shoulder... "Hummmm" You ever think about going to another cooling system for some of the places in the hospital?"
In my head I'm like...." NAAAAAAAAW nigga, I haven't tried because I want you to come over here to test your remote controlled breath to see if you can navigate it to my nostrils and stun me.
I sat there mummified like a frozen baby trying to avoid inhaling because I know I'm going to smell hot coffee and toothpaste funk- and what ever he had for breakfast... having me guessing like...chick fil-a? Naa, it was Waffle House.. Naa, it was a box of smoked hog ass and pickled eggs.
All I could mutter was, "yes"
So he starts talking about his wife and his new motorcycle (He's 52 and semi-fat). He's steadily making me hungry because his breath smells like chitterlings. Co-workers are showing up and walking down the corridor with their heads leaning back laughing as they look and see what I'm going thru. We have big ass windows in the corridors of our building. You can see in the offices easily.
Mr. WW2 mustard gas breath decides to pick up one of my highlighters and mark up my drawing. The nerve of this guy!!!
Me: "Duuude, WTF?"
Him: "Huh?" Oh-Oh Oh I'm sorry, I was trying to suggest an alternate path. This is a working copy right?" He's pumping a steady stream of hot puppy and taco breath up in my face. Damn this motherfucker's breath was funky.
At this point I'm feeling myself about to loose it. He marked up personal set of my plans. I got some of his spit on the blade of my shoulder. I can feel it.. evaporating.. cold.
Me: "Hal, I need space."
Him: "Hal"
Me: "Halitosis! (Here I go, I'm getting loud and can't stop!) You walk in here, invade personal space boundaries, close talk me with hot garbage pail breath, blab about your bike and wife in which I give 3 fucks about, then you mark up my shit without asking!!!!" Now, I keep my office door open so I won't appear anti-social because most people don't walk all up behind someone when they are sitting at their desk, especially when its facing the door.
Him: "!!!!!!!!!!"
Others pile in my office and pull him out. One guy was zombie-laughing down the corridor as he walked past- you know, laughing silently with his head leaned back, mouth opened, arms loosely dangling to sides and on slight tip toes.
I'm the only black person at the firm and felt like I should have handled this a little more professionally.
Later I apologized. He took it all in stride....... when I say stride... this nigga was chewing it. Apparently the others sat him down and told him about his burnt pork breath and close talking. Said that other wanted to tell him but could not find the words.
Later I took all his suggestions about other means of cooling the hospital and he helped me thru my ordeal. I listened to his bike story and we all had a better morning. It was actually funny. I asked him if there was anything about me that bothered him, he said no.
I took him out for Korean for lunch.... ...................................................................................This nigga ordered Kimchee. FML

I've been eating more in an attempt to gain muscle and all around health. It's going great, one side effect however is hellashis farts.. they dont reak, they just damn near split my intestines like a over blown balloon.. hella 10 second farts. I thought you should know that..
Back to the original subject. Yes. I worked with a close talker who had death living in his mouth and felt the need to tell me about his previous nights adventures every morning. I can't describe the smell, it was something I had never experienced before, nor since.. I honestly dont know how you would accomplish that odor if you tried to do it intentionally. It would actually make me angry.. It's beyond me how he couldn't fucking taste it.. my condolences.. start offering peppermints to him EVERYTIME you see him..passing in the hall, talking with him on the phone, through e-mail, post-it notes...EVERYTIME you communicate.. Lord willing he can take a hint..

Smelly people are the worst. I have so many customers come into my work that stink like fuck. Some times it lingers and i become concerned that the following customers will think it's me producing the smell. I used to have a teacher back in middle school, and his breath smelt of a rotten combination of cigarettes and pickled onions. He was one of the teachers that would crouch over a student's shoulder just to look at the student's work, and it was absolutely repulsive. No one ever dared to mention it to him though because he was the principle of the school too. You did well telling the guy. Some time the truth hurts, but he'll probably be thankful one day. It'll be interesting to note if he actually takes it on board and develops tolerable breath.

It is hard to maintain good breath. You have to star on top of it with proven methods. Toothpaste is not enough. You got to use something like baking soda or parsley to neutralize bad smell, not cover it up. Brush after baking soda. It isn't hard to do

Tonsil stones are ghastly things and more people need to learn about them and then teach them selves to massage their tonsils to get that shit out. I brush my teeth before leaving home, but during the day i drink water after eating and then chew zero sugar chew chewing gum occasionally. Chewing encourages the mouth to produce saliva which has enzymes to naturally form a healthy mouth. A healthy mouth should not have any particularly strong odor, let alone an unpleasant one. People have been taught by commercial based society to associate mint with cleanliness and freshness, so it's the obvious flavor to make a chewing gum that also needs to make a person 'feel' clean when they chew it too.

I didn't read every post, but a tip from seinfeld. Give him a pack of tic tacs. You'll hear him approaching so you'll have enough heads up to position yourself in a way he might not be able to get so close.
And if he eats them it'll help out his breath a little too.

Yeah, Moe that's pretty nasty, I used to be in a band with a singer with rotten tooth halitosis. I swear I could see his microphone melting like acid. His breath was so bad that nobody minded letting him know. We all made him see it as his own problem that he needed to remedy, not something anyone should be forced to deal with.

Nice story. I can relate. I work with a guy at a wood shop who always wears tank tops and he smells like Hot Dog Water. He's always up close and personal, even touches your shoulder or leg when he's telling a story. He's a little too much some days but he's been through a lot in his life. He's in his late 50s with a terminal wife.
I wish he could do something more about his hygiene though man! That hot dog water smell is so foul you gotta hold your breath when he's around.

Complaining about how the people you work with smell is just whiny. It makes me think people are super young when they post shit like that.
You work with who you work with. You don't have to fuck them. You don't even have to be their friend. It doesn't fucking matter how they smell, you're there to work not sniff people's buttholes.
Out of you're entire day, if all you have to complain about is how someone fucking smelled, then you have nothing to fucking complain about. You're really going to put time and effort into a smell?
Fuck, the things people care about these days.

Sounds like someone doesnt have a non tooth brusher in his area. Calm down turkey, we're just talkin' bout peoples surprisingly poor hygiene.
Now I can understand your annoyance with the OP, i've only seen two from her/him, one has been poor and this one is borderline.

That's exactly how it smells though! Very unique and disgustingly pungent haha. Sorry I messed up your makeup but I saw this thread as a nice outlet to throw that out there about my Co worker.
