A couple years ago we had a mean heat wave where for like a week or two it broke 100 and was pretty humid, I didn't have aircondition and lived on the third floor of a rowhouse that didn't have great insulation. It was hell. That winter was comparably warm and rainy instead of lots of snow too.
but I've been in Houston before and god damn, it was a different world. Also, you guys have flying cockroaches and tarantula hawks, so all in all...I could never live there.
I came upon a fucking swarm of tarantula hawks on this weird bush they must love...was trying hard to get an upclose pic but the fuckers were getting pissed

We're off to a hot start in my area.
Probably one of the nicest springs i've ever seen though, cool mild temps and lots of rain.

I'm pretty accustomed to it. I mean when it's intense, like it has been, it's too much and I just don't even want to go outside, but I mean like the idea of walking under shade making any kind of real difference? Yeah I'm pretty used to the idea there is no hiding from the heat except with A/C. I spend 20 minutes outside and my shirt will be drenched with sweat. Shit never evaporates, it just keeps collecting and collecting.
As for flying cockroaches. They're my nemesis I haven't even see most females be as scared of them as I am. I've always wanted to move up to Washington or something so I never have to deal with them again. My grandma grew up there and told me she'd never seen a cockroach until she moved to Texas.

currently 103 in Dallas right now and that's with overcast skies
but we supposedly are through with the 103 to 106 type temps for the foreseeable future after today, and back to the much breezier and cooler 99 to 101 days

I've been in TX for the majority of my life (originally from Michigan though; I still feel like MI is home in a lot of ways), and I have come to respect it as one of my homes certainly, but if it weren't for my ties down here, I'd be somewhere else. Further up north somewhere. I'm a cold weather dude.

You near Houston I guess? Lived in Houston for a few years for work. In fact I just moved back to Dallas about a year & a half ago.

So the heat breaks and we finally get rain (now that half my yard is turning brown) and it happens literally right as I'm about to start working on our newly acquired car so I can determine what all needs to be fixed so we can get it titled and registered. Fuck you weather! I have like 27 days left to figure out what parts I need and get them and get the car inspected.

This just showed up on the news feed, thought of this thread instantly.. Lol

Quote:
WASHINGTON (AP) — Earth just keeps getting hotter. July was the planet's warmest month on record, smashing old marks, U.S. weather officials said.
And it's almost a dead certain lock that this year will beat last year as the warmest year on record, they said.
July's average temperature was 61.86 degrees Fahrenheit, beating the previous global mark set in 1998 and 2010 by about one-seventh of a degree, according to figures released Thursday by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That's a large margin for weather records, with previous monthly heat records broken by a 20th of a degree or less.
"It just reaffirms what we already know: that the Earth is warming," said NOAA climate scientist Jake Crouch. "The warming is accelerating and we're really seeing it this year."
NOAA records go back to 1880. Separate calculations by NASA and the Japanese weather agency also found July 2015 to be a record.
The first seven months of 2015 were the hottest January-to-July span on record, according to NOAA. The seven-month average temperature of 58.43 degrees is 1.53 degrees warmer than the 20th-century average and a sixth of a degree warmer than the old record set in 2010.
2016 Just..

I love those things. The ones here are smaller scale and I always see them dragging a huge dead spider up the wall. They will spend an hour dragging it up then right before it reaches wherever it is trying to go it slips and drops the spider and has to start all over.

Yeah it has been a hot summer. But these last 2 winters around here have been the coldest by far in my lifetime the lifetime of alot of 50 and 60 year Olds I've talked to it about. We would go months with temps in single digits going to below 0. Which is wild for this area. They say one winter in the 70 was really bad. But these last 2 have been the coldest by far.
On the flip side 3 or 4 years ago was one winter of the mildest and almost down right warm alot of the time. I remember i was roofing in early March and it was in the 80s and 90s that week. Which is extremely rare. And even that whole spring was warmer then usually. The ovoids I pick made there appearance earlier then I have ever seen. I will be surprised if they come out that early again.
Anyways I woulda thought these ridiculously cold winters would even out the hot summers. Around my area anyway. I know it's different in different regions.
