If you dyed your agar will healthy mycelium change its color?

Here's some examples, when I did the transfer I left the discoloration out.

These are all oyster by the way if that makes a difference.

I assume you are referring to the colour in the agar itself changing. If so, then the answer is yes. I have had it happen many times with many strains. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it depends on what was used for colouring and whether or not the mycelium can consume the colouring agent. I believe I used regular "club house" spice brand blue food colouring.

Ok cool, knowing what I know about mycelium I definitely thought that would be a possibility- but at the same time I wanted to ensure clean transfers. It does just look like the food colouring has been sucked out of it and from where the mycelium appears to be strongest.  Thanks a lot! I appreciate it!

No problem TravelAgency. I was actually surprised that I have not seen anyone post this question before. I guess not to many people colour their agar...

Appreciate it! The ones I already did agar to agar have already completely colonized the transfer and are starting to branch out into the new dish! Super excited this will be my first oyster grow.

I always recommend this grow for a few reasons:

1- ready out of the bag (pre-hydrated).
2- available anywhere in north America.
3- simple and DIRT CHEAP.

check it out Travel!

Thanks a bunch! Wow- you don't have to pasteurize the substrate? Are oysters just that friggin boss? I also was recommended wheat straw as a substrate and there is a feed store near by- which do you think works better?
