Habitat: woodchips , about 2 metres from CONFIRMED ACTIVES
Stem: at first no real bruising but started to bruise blue slowly after about 20 mins (i THINK). see pics

after about maybe 20 mins the stem started slowly turning a bit blue as shown

found right next to these babies which are obviously actives. wondering if they are same species but I am too noob to identify the variance??

Yeah, it's active.
It's Psilocybe "subsecotioides", to be precise. Sort of...

This thread inspired me to publish it. Does anyone have a good type collection that can be deposited in a herbarium?

I know. I used to eat all the rare NZ Psilocybe before people kind of figured there was more than just subaeruginosa and aucklandii out there. I was finding them 15+ years ago. These mushrooms aren't rare anyway, very common really. You'll get some I'm sure.

Alrighty, I have changed the name of this thread . Mainly because the more I look into this species the more fascinated I am. Also because I obviously received a positive ID. But I am hoping to get some answers from the collective brains of all the pro's that have commented on this post already .
Will attach more photos soon

First things first, here are my 2 hauls
Haul 1

Haul 2

Now, onto the actual info around this species. After some research, i am wondering if this species is not just a variant of P.Weraroa?? In fact, I found a few specimens that almost exactly matched what I imagine a Weraroa to look like. I live up in Auckland so I have never actually found one. (until now maybe ...? )
Would you guys ID this specimen as a weraroa if you were not told it was from a subsecotioides patch?

As to depositing from a herbarium, I would more than happily donate a couple specimens from each patch to science. However, as I am far from a man with any knowledge around these scientific processes I would not even know where to start or how to donate one without looking suspicious (because is it not illegal to possess this species of wild mushroom?)

Great shit bro, awesome finds. I have a ridiculous amount of Psilocybe subaeruginosa patches, but I am yet to find any other active species.
Psilocybe subsecotioides looks exactly like a Psilocybe subaeruginosa/Psilocybe weraroa hybrid.
Some specimens lean more towards the Psilocybe subaeruginosa looking side and others lean more towards the Psilocybe weraroa looking side.
All of your specimens are 100% Psilocybe subsecotioides, you do not have any Psilocybe weraroa, even if I was shown the three images of the specimen you suspect to be Psilocybe weraroa with no background information whatsoever, I will still confirm that it is a Psilocybe subsecotioides.
Send Alan a PM if you wish to have your specimens as the first ever scientifically recognized collections which will officially be named Psilocybe subsecotioides.
The reason the above posts were mindfucking you was because Psilocybe subsecotioides is actually a slang name at the moment, it's not official until it's officially published by a scientist like Alan Rockefeller.
You're gonna have to grab your most pristine specimens and get em cracker dried, then send them.
A dehydrator will do this, other drying methods like fans and shit wont cut it, they must be cracker dried, bone dry, 100% dried! No moisture content what so ever, a dehydrator will do this hard and fast.
Don't put any sender details on the package and lable it "Herbairium type collection" or someshit, do not put anything incriminating on the package and it most likely will not be intercepted.

Thanks bro, i was definitely stoked with these finds. Heres a pic of the final haul from this patch, retrieved very recently. No signs of new pins and most of these specimens were very dry. This patch has been a beaut to me. RIP

Thanks for the help and info. I can definitely see what you mean about some of them looking more like subs and others lean more towards the weraroa side of things. With age, some have gone a porcelain white color, while others have looked more like dried subs. Such a fascinating species.
Also, would you recommend tossing in new bark etc to help this patch blossom again next season? Does that actually help?

A very nice patch. Lucky you. You could feed it some chips if you think it needs it or to expand it. It will also help to conserve moisture and protect it from the weather.

And it will expand the mycelium to the rest of the woodchips you add.
But only do this if the layer of woodchips is thin, if the chips are thin add more woodchips or it.
