Flatcakes look dry ( pic )
    #2205518 - 12/28/03 12:55 PM (13 years, 9 months ago)

Dunk and rolled cakes last week and there is no new growth on verm. Cakes should be fluffy right? they look kind of dry. This is my first time attempting flatcakes so I dont know what to expect?

what did you dunk in... gasoline? maybe your temps are too low? keep them at 86 deg F. for fast mycilium growth.

you incubate until the verm is collinized and once it is the you put it to fruiting temps

Ok, thanks I didnt know that. But how do you incubate after you have dunked and rolled? Just keep the temp at 85? And lights off?

You don't.

Leave it at fruiting conditions.

If they seem dry, mist them.

well mfoaf has never done cakes only casings and when you case it with verm he incubates at 86 degrees and when the first spots of mycilium pops through he paches until its all even on the casing and once it is he drops the temp to 76 and that is the way he has allways done and hes been at it for 3 1/2 years. he didnt incubate after casing and it took ovet two weeks for any sign of growth but this was with casings and not BFR.cause mycilium grows best at 86 degres and thats what you are trying to acomplish. But i honestly think thier would be no differnce since you have cased it. But I could be wrong. And motoman im not trying to say your wrong. He has never done cakes just casings and this to me would be considered a casing.

I always incubate my casing after casing them also. But since it in a flate cake I would leave it. It is the same priciple as dunking and rolling regular pf cakes. If they want it to colonize the verm then they should raise the temps like you said. Personally I would leave it. The reason for incubating after making a casing would be to give the substrate time to recooperate. Since the mycelium it still in one piece, its not really needed.  :smirk:

yeah I wouldn't incubate that shit either, it should be ready to go, maybe cold shock to initate pinning, other than that I would just wait
