We have time. It will be okay. We have the need as humans to get everything at once. We can't see the ociannrising, so to speak.

If that mission is already listed above my apologies...too high to read through it.

Mars One is nothing but a big hypothetical idea. the likelihood of them adhering to their(extremely optimistic) schedule or achieve funding is slim to none

There's no way the human race will ever develop its technology to the point of interstellar travel let alone intergalactic

We'll kill ourselves off or suck our planet dry long before we can ever get to that level of technology

I believe if science and technololgy progress in the right direction forward into the future, its a real possibility.

But i seriously doubt it will happen in my lifetime. Wish it would thou.

i would guess 400 - 500 years into the future, people may have the resources and technology to travel vast distances thru space to other exoplanets.

Exciting to think about even if its a distance future fantasy.

Safety from what exactly?  Being a multi planet species gives us a better chance for survival.  I'm not saying Mars is the answer, but it's a start.

I personally think their timeframe that they've listed on their website is not likely at all but we'll get there someday - hopefully I'm alive to see it when it happens!!!

i feel like you're confusing Galaxy's and Solar Systems.

theres a massive difference. theres like, billions or trillions of stars in a galaxy. but generally only one star in a solar system

No.  Not a prayer.  Nothing reachable is sustainably hospitable on its own and anyplace that might be is clearly too far to go.

Fusion children.  Without it we (well our children's children's children) will be back in caves

What if a technology was developed, where nominal flight speed was thirty times faster than the speed of light?

How would that change our thoughts in this thread?

Long before we reach planets in other systems, we will have permanent colonies on the Moon or other moons, Mars, maybe Ceres or Vesta or other large asteroids. Or maybe, large habitats orbiting Earth or stationed at L4 or L5 Lagrange points.

In space energy is virtually free, and on bodies without atmospheres solar can be very efficient. Water? H and O are abundant elements, and there are caches of ice here and there. I presume all manner of elements are available in the asteroid belt for raw materials (we can't be lifting millions of tons out of a 1 G gravity well for all of this).

That leaves food, but between vat-grown edibles, fungus or algae, hell engineered stuff if needed, we'll find a way. Not only will humanity live off-planet in the future, if we survive long enough to get there, but we must get off the planet. As long as all our eggs are in one basket we are at risk as a species.
