AUG was 79.3% below normal RF for the month with a deficit of over 3.03".  of the observed RF in AUG, 81.6% occurred before the 15th of the mo making the last three weeks severely dry.

i bet if the cold front THUR-FRI this week pans out in this area and if VAGent is up in the GW Nat. Forest this weekend, he'll produce.

i'll give it a go, that's for sure.

ETA: stats are in my back yard...which is crunchy right now, even down in the woods in the creek bottom.

I've just about given up on these, by time we get enough rain this season will be likely be over.

I'm about to harvest my first cubes so it's not a big deal, but I was really hoping to find a few.

I've been spraying water from my camelbak when I find spots. And most of the places I find them are extremely humid. But the lack of rainfall is certainly effecting the fruiting season.

Word has it p caerulipes are found in sc. been doing a lot of research/homework on the little bastards. I hope to add some pics to this thread after the next rains come through. I have yet to find somebody from this state ( south carolina ) who has found them, but im psyched and determined. the hunt will soon be on!

Beautiful pics, some really great shots.

you ever see one of those nature shows where there's a watering hole and all the other animals are standing around because there's a hungry croc in said hole?

and then one antelope goes up to the edge to get a drink, and do the others stop him? nooo... they just WATCH to see what's going to happen.

kind of a morbid curiosity liberally salted with self-preservation, i imagine.

you are the antelope.  your feds are the crocs.  we're a bunch of waterbuffalo waiting to see what happens.

(actually, its been too dry to bother to look around here.)

VG, I might go have a look see on Monday after it rains a whole bunch. I'll be sure to send you some prints if anything materializes...

If the feds care about a guy walking around the woods eating mushrooms, then they have waaaaaay too much free time on their hands. Esp since I don't grow them or sell them. Just pick wild ones and stuff them into my mouth and then feel really really really good. Haha.

Also, it rained this evening, yay!!!

i'm gonna make a run to the hills NW of c'ville this weekend; shot in the dark, or in the dimness, but i'll give it a go while camping.

Some areas around me had serious rains yesterday. Didn't get any in my home town, but 1.2 inches fell in areas within a 40 minutes away. Do you guys think it's worth heading out for a drive or should I wait a day or two?

Yes you should, i usually go the day after but two or three days is still a good bet.

I felt bad about lifting that log up for a myc shot since I did it.  So piled more leaves over it to help it recover faster.  Yesterday, 3 weeks later I went to look at it and its like it grew 2x with thick rhizomes, perhaps thicker and faster growing than ovoid when it gets on a log and not chips.  And snipped off a ropey strand to roll around until it turned blue to assure its identity. So exciting.  It makes me wonder, if somfone put effort into isolating a good strain and watering it, it may proliferate into carpet of shrooms and be worthwhile.  Even aggressive cyans for example dont generally produce loads in the "wild"  That above woodchip find is very inspiring.  Maybe these mushrooms like chip beds too abut because of their more undisturbed habitat just havent had the human intervention needed to introduce them to chips like cyans/azures and such?

Do you know that was Caerulipes and not ovoid mycelium? Ive tried over the years by collecting logs they were on and adding wood chips and have failed. I know a couple people i have sent prints to have had minor success but have said they are difficult. The fact that they have one of the largest distributions across most of the Eastern USA and have been around for quite along time by now they would have been found on man made wood chips if they were able to grow there. Seems like they need nearly 100% shade and a lack of disturbance. My favorite part about caerulipes is that they grow in the wild, not too many Psilocybes can say that.

As a side note i have not even tried to get out, damn lack of rain and heat. But its def not over yet, id be more surprised if i dont find some within the next couple weeks than if i do.

Awesome finds everyone keep it up !!

I started a culture awhile back and cleaned it up on agar transferring most aggressive myc continuously. It's taken months to colonized spawn jars which I'm experimenting with different grains. These are the furthest along of chicken scratch and rye berry caerulipes spawn.

I'll be testing them outdoors in the Willamette Valley and in containers to be left out on the porch.

Pickings are slim due to the lack of rain. Only finding about 10 dried grams per day now :-(

Roy, I did a few jars of rgs and beech twigs.  Growth was meh.  same as the beech chip pile in te woods i made.  I tried sawdust (beech) and sand and still didnt see any signs of spectacular growth.  but then as an afterthought i found some logs in the creek and submerged in creek with a cinder block for a few days and piled on top and bam a few months later all growth is on the logs.  I suppose it could be ovoid myc but ovoids would tear through the sawdust.  I have a cultivated ovoid patch only a mile away or so, but they arent really super common around my way.  In about 15 years of searching this area for ovoids, before they were even called that, I found one small cluster in a place with lots of human intervention which was more or less a fluke.  Come to think of it, I did a dozen or so feet from this spot pass by a few piles of "deer shit"and right after that gman posted "deer shit" looking pins and so scanned that woods like no tomorrow and found nothing.

I think my mycelium log is legit caerulipes.  The smell was legit.  Ovoid haas sort of a psilocybe smell with a gross aftersmell.  I sniffed some ovoid myc less than an hour before, so it was very fresh in my memory.

Hmm thats interesting, well guess we will know for sure if/when it fruits. Good luck!

Akhkharu 10 dried grams in one day isnt slim pickings! Thats hundreds of mushrooms! Thats crazy if your finding that much.. And only one picture!
