Regional patterns looking decent for the areas of VA I hunt. If they're on time like the last few years it should be a productive weekend.

Thanks maynard! Its a Nikon D40 with a macro lens. Its pretty old now, only 6 mega pixles.
Good luck VG! Not sure what the problem here has been, had plenty of rain in August. Maybe the hot dry July messed them up. Or maybe some years are just better than others, could be why they are seemingly rare. Or hopefully is the case that they are just a little late.

I'm hoping their really late here. The weather has finally cooled of but we still haven't had much rain and there isn't much in the forecast. I've found some amazing beach habitat along a river with never ending rotting beach, still not a single Carupulies in sight.
I thought I'd have no problems finding these, boy was I wrong! Is anyone else posting in this thread north of the border?

Unfortunately rain is everything, without it things will be tough. While prime time up in Canada should have already past I have seen them found throughout September up there so don't give up hope!
Went to pick some early season grapes today stopped by a stream on the way and snapped a couple pics, few and far between.

Thanks!
Since its been a tough year and I have not been finding too many I figured ill do this a little different and try to explain better how and where i search in order to help those who are looking.
Sun rise about 6am and a typical looking stream
Now i know i always say i search along streams but i never really specify. I generally search ridges above said streams. This picture shows the stream on the left and i am on a a flat ridge. These ridges can go for quite a ways then either peter out or eventually become too steep. In that case i will just find another ridge. Generally i zig zag my way up stream crossing it many times to hit ridges on both sides. Some of these ridges can be a couple hundred feet above the stream while others are only a couple feet.
Now i am always in a northern hardwood forest dominated by yellow birch with many beech around. This stream is around 2300 ft in elevation. And i look for this, dead birch killed by armillaria and you can even see some small dead beech trees around it.
At the base of this tree was these growing from leaf litter, i included a picture with a tip of my key for size comparison. They can be very small. But they are most commonly found on smaller branches like these on this beech
Or thy are just random on leaf litter or small pieces of wood
So to put it in perspective i was out for about 7 hrs today and found 11 all together, they are hard to find and often so small they are overlooked especially when dry and pale. Well hope that helps and good luck to all.

Sounds like my kinda mushroom. It is threads like these that make me wish I were still in Ohio sometimes. Montana is beautiful and all... But no mushrooms to offer that rewarding feeling of finding mushrooms such as these.
Well I guess for now it is Gymnopilus and Cinctilus hunting.
And hiking the beautiful mountain trails.

Great shots guys! I have managed to find another 3 caerulipes this year, but only 3 again! It seems to be the magic number for me. Luckily though, I was out looking for chanterelles, and found a nice pile, but its been so dry around here in the atlantic provinces. Anyways, no habitat shots again this year, just some shots of them in hand.

Keep at it, I'm not sure how much longer the season is though. Its been a weird year for sure!

They are probably most similar to cubes. I never had or found ovoids but they seem like they should be stronger and only had cubes once and only have a dried gram of these once or twice a year. But one gram is enough for slight visual and auditory changes, pretty much feel high for 4 hrs puts you in a very good place. Only problem is one dried gram is still about 20 30 40 or more mushrooms, so a heavier trip would require quite a lot.
Nice find Rope! 3 aint bad but good luck im sure you can find more!
Thanks Magicdave! Good luck on your searching!

That Ganoderma looks more like Tsugae than Luciderm imo... Give us an update when you find more Caeulipes!

it was tsugae, it was growing on an old dead conifer and I made tea with it. More caerulipes after the rain though :-)

Found a few more today. Nothing spectacular, but caerulipes nonetheless.
