I've been looking forever in Western Maine. Even though I'm looking in hardwood forests with beech it's like looking for a needle in a haystack. Frustrating.

I'm so jealous. I've been checking a couple different spots with plenty of Beech daily but haven't found anything yet. I am however seeing tons of mycelium in these areas just no little Caerulipes.
Do these tend to come out right after a good rain? We had a couple days with rain but doesn't seem to have been enough for the fungus. I'm not seeing many mushrooms at all in southern Ontario woods.

Nice cluster! Cant believe its been a year already. Went out today with the dog wasnt expecting much as its still early but found a few out there, didnt try too hard though, as the dog limits me. These happened to be where i was walking.
Its always best after a rain, especially heavy rains.

Thanks for sharing Roy! Anyone else who has tired to photograph this tiny species must agree that you have a gift for capturing so many great images.
Also, everyone can help this thread out by adding their caerulipes finds so we have it all in one place.
Here is my contribution for today:

Fruits are still few and far between. Late start to the season up here this year.
Last week was our first real "heat" of the summer. Highs were near 90 for a few days in a row. Now this week it has cooled to more comfortable temperatures. Highs just under 80 and lows around 50. Also a little bit of rain showers or storms for several consecutive days combined with these cooler temps has initiated fruiting. If we get a day or two of heavy rain they will be popping all over the place, but forecast is not looking good yet.

What would be considered a normal size haul of these? Do you only find a handful at a time, or sometimes find a large amount?

Thanks DT! They are not easy to photograph for sure. When does it usually start for you up there? Its around August 10-15 on average around here in upstate New York and northern New Jersey.
A normal haul can be as little as one or as many as 100. Large patches are uncommon, one or two or maybe a cluster of 5 is the norm. But those are scattered throughout large tracts of forest, so a good day of hunting can produce a large haul but not just from one location. If that made any sense...

Does anyone from Maine have any advice on finding these? I don't know if it's still early but it feels like I'm looking in the right places, beech forest near stream, but I'm not finding any. Our season might be the same as upstate New York though.

It should be on its way already there in Maine. Are you in the mountains? Best advise i can give anyone is pick a stream, preferably a high gradient well shaded stream, a ravine in other words. And just walk along its banks and up on the ridges above it, keep your eyes down and look for well decayed branches and fallen trees often on moist slopes. And yes beech and birch are what they are most commonly found on but also just leaf litter so as long as your in a northern hardwood forest the beech and birch trees will be there just keep your head down and walk slow, once you find one they will be easier to spot.

Thanks, I was in an area that fits that description this morning. I'll have to check here again along with another spot I have in mind.

I figured we would see a little more activity in this thread by now. Is everyone still waiting on rain? Were supposed to get dumped on here in Southern Ontario today.

Here is one more from today. The ones found in mixed leaf litter are spread out and usually growing alone. The good flushes and groupings are usually found on small to medium sized logs.

Here is a habitat shot:
I look for areas with lots of down beech wood. Most of the good logs have been decomposing for around 5 to 10 years. This area was close to an active stream and on a gentle slope.
I also find some good black trumpet spots near bluefoot habitats!
