This little guy has been growing in a blvd near my house. I've been watching it but recently some butthole weat eated half of it. I am trying to decide if I should take it and try to clone it. Or if it's worth messing with.
I am amatuer as can be but I think this looks like sulphur shelf or chicken of the woods. Please help experts.
Habitat: Southern Indiana, the base of a south facing hardwood tree. I would have to look closer to ID the tree.
Gills: Sort of like oysters
Stem: Length, diameter, color, texture, hollow/solid, thin/thick, etc.
Cap: See pic. Orange
Spore print color: N/a
Bruising: no effect/none. Just looked damaged where the weed eater struck it but still white.

Agreed. Coincidentally I just finished a bowl of Laetiporus cincinnatus soup!!! Great eating mushroom, but must cook through.

Correct. It has tiny holes. My mind was on oysters.
Gills: Sort of like bolete.
Ok, that is what it looks like to me to. I was so excited to find what I thought was an edible mushroom I was hasty. Now what? How should I collect the fruit without killing the organism so it can potentially return? Leave some? That would be easy if I left the smashed side.

cut it off with a knife. It will be back net year, if you can dodge it with the weed eater. Beer batter it and deep fry it
