I give our current civilization a maximum (!) of 4 decades before shit hits the fan so hard it's whole foundation is destroyed completely.
so why bother with current politics (canadian elections, USA elections) all of this is bullshit.
we had the potential of understanding the universe and we threw it all away.
it's all a big cosmic farce, humanity is a joke .

You should bring us the cure and end it all, oh great one. I'm certain the answers are here somewhere...

We are treading into unknown waters for humanity, but the climate has been much warmer then this in the distant past. Scientists that people listen to spout all sorts of opinions that they can't possibly know. If a scientist says that global warming will end, or may end humanity, you are dealing with fool or disingenuous person

Its always been unknown waters for humanity. Humanity is a joke fucking please. If your so much better and wiser than the rest of us op please enlighten me on what you do to better affect the planet?
It's a by product of industrialization. Cars emit pollution but i sure as fuck like driving one instead of walking and will continue to do so.

The earth goes through changes/cycles, global warming will happen no matter what regardless of human ways. They found plants under ice that had melted in the poles. That tells me that the weather patterns on earth have changed forever

That is true, but the nature of those changes is important. Industry is a very new thing. The earth measurably cooled post 911, from no planes

I normally don't post here, but an enormous amount of cannabis being grown will probably save the world from climate change. Mark my words, everyone will grow the plant, there will probably be floating islands dedicated to only the growth of cannabis. At the end of it all there might be too much O2. My point, no need to worry!
*That's assuming whatever is happening is caused by people. If it's a natural thing that will occur no matter what, then we still don't have to worry. People will probably still grow a bunch of pot and I still see the future having floating islands dedicated to cannabis.

The clouds around giant cities like Mexico City are about as natural as this tablet I'm using. No way that shit stays in one area and has no effect

nah I've been drinking. What I was saying is sort of in reference to Cannabis being a really high producer of 02 compared to other plants. It's actually feasible as far as I know to do a pseudo-terraforming of our planet to rid ourselves of green house gases by a global effort to grow cannabis. I mean, It's far fetched but it's optimistic.

Things will happen, and humanity will adapt. They won't have a choice. It is also true that it has been warmer in the past, or as some love to intone, "the climate always changes". Then again, sea level was over one hundred feet higher during parts of those periods.
The primary difficulty arises from the rate of change we are likely to be confronted with in the coming decades/century and beyond. Human activity is applying pressure and there is little doubt about that. But historically,, natural climate changes (excepting things like giant volcanic eruptions, asteroids etc.) were slow enough to allow more room for adaptation.
Animal populations adapt to ranges where food is available, plants colonize areas suited to their long-evolved adaptation to climate such as drought tolerance, or large/frequent availability of water. Humans were able to colonize coasts and river mouths in part due to stable sea level, they farmed lands that received on average sufficient rain. Climate changes over hundreds/thousands of years (or more) were adapted to easily, gradually.
Now take these changes and compress them into a hundred years, Natural systems will have trouble keeping up, and human society may suffer disruptions on a major scale. If we hold at current rates, we'll gain 18 inches/0.45 meters. Many signs suggest that we will, or already are, seeing acceleration in the rate of rise. A full meter by end of century is entirely possible, and increasingly it looks probable. This alone will be disruptive, and ultimately displace millions. Make it 5 feet and we are talking 100 million plus.
Can we stop it? Too late for that, but we can mitigate severity. If instead we do nothing for the next five decades, we are probably looking at even greater impacts.
What bothers me is not the politicization of the matter some claim exists, even though it may/does, but the outright denial that any human culpability could exist, by some. The consensus on the matter is overwhelming, and evidence continues to mount. Yet there are those who continue on the denial track.
To me this foremost is indicative of scientific illiteracy, or at best an odd marriage between profound cynicism and a pie-in-the-sky naivete that a conspiracy run by humans could persist on such a scale and not come to light. (don't bother with the roundly debunked 'climate-gate' crap).
One of the strongest indicators of one's position on the matter is their ideological bent. The considerably asymmetric distribution along ideological lines is a strong indicator that people are not forming their own opinions. With literally 100s of millions spent on position propaganda, one must wonder if individual positions are not only delivered, but also bought.
I am curious, what other force is the change driver, if it is not CO2 emission from human activity? There is nothing else that explains the obvious trend line. If anything, earlier activity has probably served as a masking agent. For example early industrial air pollution, or later cloud seeding by jet contrails have raised the planet's albedo (reflectivity), thus lowering insolation (energy delivered by the sun). Such masking effects could skew the comparative interpretation of historic data vis-à-vis atmospheric CO2 and average global temperature.
It is a complex but interesting subject. It amazes me that some reject the science out of hand, yet would be hard pressed to explain the methodologies used for the taking of measurements (much less why things are done a certain way), so I doubt the statistical analysis applied is understood to them.
Asimov warned of coming problems due to CO2 emissions in 1956. They didn't just decide to make this up, it came about as the result of science at work - nothing more, nothing less. Just because one is cynical about politics and their motivations doesn't mean you throw out science altogether. Human's role in the current warming and atypical rate of change is virtually assured, and in all probability we will suffer some globally disruptive consequences, start well before 2100 I think.
