Would this glovebox idea work?
    #2195317 - 12/22/03 10:52 AM (17 years, 10 months ago)

Clear plastic bin with 2 gauntlet type plstic gloves..
The air inside would be sprayed with bleach solution...
Is their any way of ensureing that sterile air is pumped in..
Maybe by bubbling the air through 100% bleach solution??
I am planning to do G2G

HEPA is the only way to get very sterile air. Otherwise I think you'll be able to do G2G transfers in this glovebox, just don't forget to use peroxide and to wipe external surfaces of petris and jars with alcohol, before you start working.

what about ionization?

small ionizer in the box would help dramatically of removing airbourne particles.

ionization would remove the contams that havent already hit the cake. and for the price of a small ionizer you would be albe to buy a hepa filter.

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

Just wanted to correct myself... ionization would drop - not remove any particles, but at least they aren't going to get on what your working with. Anything thats accidentially kicked up from fumbling will be instantly dropped again.

As far as price of a glovebox size ionizer compared to a hepa filter and some type of blower goes...
I picked up a small ac/dc ionizer for under 25 dollars at like a sharper image store. They can also be built for pennies.( well a few dollars and some scrap) Hepa can be expensive in comparisin.

Ionization is a great alternative (IMO) to HEPA for a clean environment in a glovebox. From what I understand -- HEPA filters are rated for removing down to a certain particle size or whatever -- whereas ionization will attatch to all particles and drop them down.

Both ionization and HEPA would be sweet.

Gonna build a box soon and use ionizer and NBC filters from a M1 gas mask.

true BUT if you use a dual element neg ion generator, the contams are collected on the positive (base of unit)
those outside the range (1,500 cf i THINK) fall to the ground, those inside the range are collected on the base.

Quote:

90% of air pollution particles are under 5 microns. even hepa filters can only take out up to 2 microns. the ion generator will remove particles as small as .001 micron. it constantly cleans the air. it has no filters to change. it cleans 1,500 cubic feet of room. when it's placed in your home made glove box, you create the utmost sterile conditions. you are actually using overkill. the flexible emitter allows you to direct ionization where you want it.

i just ordered mine for $40 and thats with shipping. sorry but i didnt get this thru a shroomery sponsor, so i wont post where, but if interested, PM and i will tell you where i got it.

Does anyone have a really good tek for making a glovebox? I'm planning on building one. I have an ionizer and I'm hoping to incorporate this with my glovebox.
