What on earth are these?
    #22049317 - 08/05/15 06:41 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I found these growing in the driveway at my mom's house. They're growing in a mix of dirt, leaves, and gravel underneath the shade of a sumac bush. The only thing I can think of is that they're some kind of puffball. I live in the desert and it's been about 5 days since we've had rain. They look like they're stunted and have been feasted on by bugs. So. What on earth are they?

Nobody knows, or did my thread just get buried?

Too late for that. I'm nowhere near them now. The inside was spongy but pretty firm. Shit. I had a feeling they were edible.

From pictures I found on google, I think calbovista subsculpta is the winner.
