Overcoming shyness and social anxiety/awkwardness

This has always been a problem for me. I become overwhelmed when I'm thrown into situations where I'm not familiar with the place I'm at and the people that are there. I'm even awkward around family. But a lot of my family is weird and awkward too. I'm also told by people like my step sis(who's me ex as well.), my other ex, and other people I occasionally talk to say I sound like I'm reading from the same prompt whenever i talk to my step mom or dad
Anyways: So, how does one overcome this feeling of being socially handicapped, or how have you guys if you have experienced or still experience something similar? I feel like I'm only gonna get worse the more I put it off and become complacent with it. I rarely post on forums, i just lurk. But i figured i'd try posting something :P

You can fix it by getting your dad in on this love triangle and going on the jerry springer show. Everything will be out in the open and it will cure your anxiety.

I used to have the worst social anxiety imaginable a few years back... I still kind of have it today
You kinda gotta find what makes you comfortable really. Some people are comfortable with most social situations but for me I could only communicate to people if I was leading them. Kinda weird, but it was pretty obvious as I started to get older. Every time I was put in a leadership position or people had to look up to me for info, my brain finally said that these people don't give a fuck about how I am acting or what I look like because I am leading them, therefore getting the most attention and no one ever talked shit to me.
I would suggest throwing yourself out there in social land and try not giving a fuck just for a few hours. I know it is really hard to do that but I promise once you start talking to people that your brain sees past the anxiety for a long time after. A good example is if you have social anxiety but you still have close friends: It is really easy to talk to your friends, almost as if you had no social anxiety So once you go out and try making a few more, that anxiety will wash away.

I appreciate the encouragement and enthusiasm, man! I've been comfortable in social situations before, but the uncomfortable ones outnumber the former lol But ya, I'm definitely gonna be taking baby steps. I'm feeling better about this (y)

Deep breathing Maybe get your ass kicked It helped me No more heart flutter
It really is about dealing with the fight-or-flight response, for me. I'm not everyone though. Just their biological cousin

A lot of people take beta blockers (specifically propanol) for social anxiety. It basically blocks that fight or flight response

Would this ass kicking involve me starting the fight, or me defending myself? xD But yea, its my fear of giving people the impression that I'm terribly unable to keep a conversation with someone and appearing to them to be retarded or crazy lmao

Try drinking at a party or rave(always works for me). Normally I have terrible social anxiety. Part of it is getting used to talking to new people.

Good point, I really don't actually drink much around new people, or even party much anymore. I typically find myself getting high with some group of people and get too high and end up even more fucked up then i normally am xD

Yeah a lot of it I think is the chemical lowering of inhibitions. Not a long term solution but its a good way to get your foot in the door. Better then being alone. Interestingly enough I'm a completely awkward person when I'm picking up chicks, I think about it too much say what I think they wanna hear and it never works. When I've been drinking I can smoothly approach and talk to women very well. I'm able to be myself, not worry so much,I have confidence. I think this applies with meeting new people too.

It is easy to meet people at these places... eat some shrooms and by the end your friends with everyone. Then people will invite you to private gatherings. Gotta go where the high people are.
