Harvesting sides/bottom of tubs with pins on surface
    #22048166 - 08/05/15 03:54 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

This is my first attempt at bulk growing, and I've managed to produce 2 sucessful monotubs that I'm oh so proud of. My pinset is uneven and so harvesting is going to be somewhat of a pain, but for my first attempt I am excited to see these results.

Day 4 after first pins:

Day 5 after first pins (today):

"Unfortunately," I did not take any precautions to prevent side pins, and I have some nearly mature fruits all over the sides.

(just an example, there's tons more)

I plan to do a second flush after harvesting. My concern is that when I go to harvest the sides and bottom, if I were to put another tub inside of my monotub, flip it, and then gently lift the monotub off in order to access the sides, do I need to worry about squishing or breaking the pins on the "top" surface? Won't that destroy the pins? Trying to harvest the sides from inside the tub is not an option; there is not enough space to get inbetween the wall and substrate.

Your pins need more fresh air. They look suffocated.
Just gently tilt the substrate and harvest em the best you can:shrug:

if there is lots take a tub the same size, harvest the top and lay some bubblewrap across the surface, take the empty tub and put it inside the one your fruiting in then grab both and gently flip it

Lol that's awesome, I was actually wondering not too long ago how a setup similar to that would work. I'm curious how you arranged all the sub that way?

I'll do that. What exactly do you see that indicates low FAE?

Bubble wrap definitely sounds like a good idea. By doing this though, am I risking killing a good amount of the pins on the surface? Or are pins generally durable enough to survive that much weight and basically being "smushed" for a minute?

They look like they're going to abort.
The darkening of the cap, etc. Just the way the fruits look:shrug:

I think that's just the lighting. The caps are actually pretty light in color, just poor pictures lol but I will loosen the polyfil in the top holes or turn the fan in the room up a notch just incase.

if ya got a lot of pins you can tape your holes up and fill itwith water, the sub will rise with the water
