Neglecting my sgfc for a couple days
    #22046789 - 08/05/15 11:27 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Basically, I have sgfc that's fruiting. I expect harvest time to be in 3-4 days. I have to leave on a trip for 2 days so I won't be around to fan and mist. I was thinking if I add some extra soaked perlite, mist it real good, and put a small aquarium pump in there for some fresh air that it should be okay for a couple days?
I just wanted some input to make sure this isn't a horrible idea. Thanks guys.

Just leave it as is and hope for the best. But you're likely gonna come back and it'll be way too late and you'll have a big mess of spores to deal with. They like to do that.

depending on how big they are maybe just harvest early to avoid spore-splosion :sporedrop::puke:

Yeah, the aquarium pump really isn't necessary. You can just give the perlite a nice mist before you leave and it will do great.

Does anyone know why you can't just put the cakes in the fridge to stall fruiting?

Assuming that they are well hydrated, the cakes will be fine. I'd be more worried about FAE and contams though. I second 365 in that you will have a spore mess. Happens to me every time.

You don't worry about FAE with a sgfc it's not adjustable anyway. Fanning is not FAE.
Contamination is no worry either even if you're home what would you do differently.

What about CO2 buildup? The only problems I've ever had with SGFC have been related to not fanning enough.

you dont even really have to fan a properly built and setup sgfc because of the great FAE

yes for real. that's why we usually want to mist it at least a couple times a day.

properly setup means elevated off the surface, no holes clogged and lots of free room around on all sides.

Co2 can't build up it's full of holes. Co2 doesn't sink in a terarrium. Co2 is infinitely miscable with air and mixes basically immediately. Fanning doesn't do anything for FAE or co2 just for the mist in the air after you mist.

It helps to get rid of some RH for a minute so the water you sprayed evaporates easier. That's the main reason for a mist/fan. It also adds back the tiny bit of water lost during natural evaporation.
