possible trich on fruiting cake
    #22045849 - 08/05/15 06:09 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

hey guys, so i've got two EQ cakes that i just harvested after second flush -- one just had a single gigantic fruit on top, and the other had one of similar size along with some pins. both cakes looked really healthy, with some minor bruising around the edge, but after i harvested the big guys and checked the bottom, i noticed that one of them (the one without any other pins) has a tiny spot of dark green which i'm going to assume was trich. unfortunately i didn't take a pic cause i just wanted to throw the thing out as quickly as possible. i wasn't planning on flushing that one again since it was such a low yield.

so i'm curious, is it safe to eat the guy that grew on the opposite side of the cake as that spot of trich? should i toss everything, including the other cake that i was going to flush again?

Safe to eat yes. Every wild mushroom edible or psychedelic grows on contaminated substrates. Indoors we try to avoid contamination but the fruit is still fine to eat unless the mushrooms have mold or goop on them. You'll know right away if they're bad to eat

Fully colonized substrates are very contaminate resistant.
Although after the nutrients and substrate become spent over
a period of time, it will eventually weaken and contaminate.

I would say that more then likely what you see is just heavy
bruising. Pictures would help.
