Yeah your a bit late harvesting now. WHen the veil breaks is when they're at there strongest. Can make some good prints with those though.

But either way yea ur a little late but they'll still be good eating. Harvest immediately and enjoy. I honestly don't know how much the psilocybin/psilocin content drops off after the veils open. But I've left some to long before and never had a problem still getting good trips. Also nice job. They look great.
From all the stuff I've read I've gathered that they don't lose potency after the veils breaks, they just stop gaining potency and start gaining water weight. I could be wrong, but I harvest anywhere from 2-6 hours from when the veil breaks and the potency is

RenegadeBlue said: Haha yea agreed. I've never been able to tell the difference. I've just heard the claims. But what u said does make more sense. I don't think they would actually lose any of the actives as long as they were still alive. It's probably they just stop gaining more actives so shrooms before the veil breaks may be more potent by weight then larger shrooms after the veil breaks that are just adding more water to grow larger.
Yep it's probably good to get them as close to the veil breaking as possible for quick drying purposes though since there would be less water in the fruits. Either way I just use the veil as a good indicator when my babies are ready.

There is no proof that they lose potency after the veil breaks. They might start losing potency when that start to rot but that is a few days after the veil brakes. Only bad thing about waiting this long is that the spores that are dropped onto the substrates might prevent it from producing further flushes. That is a big maybe.

I read something about shrooms not actually growing past a certain point, instead they are injected with water to increase size. Wish I would have bookmarked it!

Sporesplosion.
I tend to harvest when the veil is starting to stretch, but has not begun to break. I like doing it that way because they taste slightly less like butt, and also you don't get a big bag of shake from the caps rubbing each other. No one likes a bunch of spore shake at the bottom of a bag
If you want you could wipe the caps off with a wet rag and get them spores off the top.

In my opinion, when the veil stretches just to the point of tearing, that is when they are the most aestheticically pleasing.

I agree. They look their best when their veils are just at the point of tearing.

Just to clarify. A layer thick layer of spores on the substrate had the potential to suffocate the substrate. Hindering pin formation or maturing. I too agree that they taste better before the veil breaks. This is the same with most mushrooms. Picking and drying before the veil breaks does keep the bottom of the baggy filling with gill/spore shake. Which could be an issue or a plus. There are those idiots who think the caps and spores are where all the goodies are at

Thx to all! I am surprised by response. Yours opinions really motivate me for further cultivation. :> Mushrooms tasted pretty good, they wasn't unappetizing. They proved to be quite strong and interesting in action.

IMO, fresh cubes are tasty as hell but dehydrated cubes are so bitter that I can't stomach more than 5g at a time. I don't eat actives often but when I do, I dose 5g and then 2g every hour after that.

Holy fuck. I ate fresh mushies once (first time I tripped) and it was by far the worst tasting stuff I've ever consumed.
I think I'll try them again come next harvest though.....
