New Year's Resolutions! Get 'em While They're Hot!
    #2204041 - 12/27/03 01:07 PM (20 years, 3 months ago)

Actually, I'm fresh out of resolutions. Haven't had one in years. How about you? Is it a good idea, though, to adopt a New Year's resolution to bring about needed change? Or is it a set-up for failure?

Personally, I could lose 8 pounds. I could cut back on certain things. I could get more sleep. I could commit myself to spending more time on my work.

Should this be the time of year I make promises to myself to make changes? Or should I wait? (hehe)

I think new year's resolutions are essentially a good idea, though they can be made at any time during the year. It's not a set-up for failure, unless you make it one. It's all up to you.

My problem is that this year, I have way too many. Which is probably setting myself up for failure.

1. Not going to drink except for my 21st birthday.
2. Set up a regular walking meditation schedule.
3. Start practicing loving-kindness meditation.
and a few other random ones.

I think they are a set up for failure. Waiting for the new year to begin pesonal adjustments is akin to finishing the pack and quitting smoking or starting your diet the day after thanksgiving.

But, like, dude! There's still ice cream in the freezer and whipped cream and strawberries in the fridge, and, um... *gulp*

To further dispel pride and generate indiscriminate care for others.

To maintain correct views and understand the causes of incorrect views.

To cultivate concientiousness.

Mine is to get silversoul to get off of his ass and to start a fucking band! *assumes it would be a metal band* Don't you know that the Mushroom genre of metal is being crafted, and that we need another band?

Seriously, man, get that fucking band started! Music is life! And we need people to tour with! hehehe
Peace.

Your assumption is wrong. It would be an Alternative band.

Start that band  I wish I could play an instrument, but all I can do is sing :frown:

I had minor shoulder surgery last Friday. By New Year's it should be healed, when I get to lift the doctor's suspension of my gym membership.

My "resolution package": Smoke less cigarettes, drink maybe once or twice a year (I hate alcohol anyway), keep at the gym, and work on my physical therapy. Sounds pretty responsible, don'tcha think?

And Frog, losing 8 lbs is easy. Drink more water (less soda and alcohol), don't eat past 7pm, and take a 15 minute walk everyday. It'll be gone in a few weeks of minimal effort.

*is crying very audibly now*

My new New Year's Resolution is to increase metal awareness.  :smirk:

Actually, it would be to get this back into the shape that it is suspossed to be in. And to get my techinque on bass up to a level where I can play even better and be able to play perfectly... I guess half of this year I will be back with my band, so my resolution is to dedicate myself to crafting some great songs and working my band into tip top shape, so that we can begin to play in front of people and give them a reason to live...
Peace.

Hmm, New Year's Resolutions, eh? I don't think it's a bad idea, but then, I'm me rather
than you.

1) Write at least 500 haikus in the following year. Try to get someone to publish them.
Enjoy getting laughed at.
2) Be nicer to cats. They may not be dogs, but they're still alright.
3) Figure out how to make decent-tasting absinthe. This stuff tastes like fiery embalming
fluid! Thank god for the Guiness chaser... Hmm...

Base and vile potion
Rabidly bitter poison
Is thujone worth it?

There, 499 to go.

Here's a good idea for a resolution if you can't decide on something:

STOP DOING THAT THING YOU DO ALL THE TIME THAT YOU DON'T NEED TO DO!!!

--------------------
Insert an "I think" mentally in front of eveything I say that seems sketchy, because I certainly don't KNOW much. Also; feel free to yell at me.

If you think New Years resolutions are a set up for failure, then all intended positive changes must also be a set up for failure.

Unless they're not.

Yes, I suppose it doesn't matter when you decide to make a positive change, if you think that the timing will cause you to fail, you probably will.

New Year's Day is a good time of year for making changes. It's a set date. Lots of other people are doing it, so you have cameraderie, and if you have will power and strong incentive, there's no reason why you shouldn't succeed.

Okay, then I'm going to make a New Year's resolution:

1. I'm going to lose 8 pounds by March 1;

2. I'm going to work out 4 days a week, no matter where I am; and

3. I'm not going on the internet before 5 p.m. every day (this is the hard one) except weekends.

I think that's it. Those are the ones that have been on my mind for a while.

Okay, everyone else has to make a promise to change something and then we can all compare notes by March 1, to see who's a hero and who's a goat. (Just teasing.)

p.s. Nice Lennon pic, Learyfan.
