I spread the good word on an internet message board for free. Well, actually, I plan on taking you all to court soon, as I have a cost of living increase... 
Haven't read them, so I don't know of the message, and I don't know the guy, so I don't know his intentions, but the fact that you have to pay for all of these things everywhere raises some flags with me...

I didn't I say I expect them to. 
All I said is that the picture that was being painted sounded of something that was being milked as much as possible, in all shapes and forms.. like I said, I haven't even looked into this (yet), so I am not one to judge... all I said was that it made me think.

I understand your concern, but just remember that making money from "the message" doesn't nessessarily comprimise that message. There's nothing wrong with making money.
The reason there's lots of things like books, workbooks, cd's, tapes, etc. is because people want them! These books are extraordinary wonderful. If you read them, you'll know.

I was debating making a comment here, cause if it helps u
LearyFan and if u like it that obviously it's good for u.
IMHO, here's the light I see the books in:
- long ago there were prophets in times of great strife
who endured untold hardship to bring a message of God
(for no profit). This message was filled with terrifying
images of Hell and pleasent images of Heaven - simple
good old fashioned reward and punishment. Since none
of this could be corroborated (it was all to happen
after we died so there was no way of verifying), it
frightened the hell outta some folks and they started
following "the way" which essentially lead to a slighly
more peaceful society - until of course power stuggles
started and people started capitalizing on religion
to justify wars genocide etc.
- Now in our century, people in the west want assurance,
peace. They're tired of being frightened by images of Hell.
The guilt which initially kept people from harming others
seems to have become a huge psychological problem in itself.
Along comes Mr Walsh telling people exactly what they want
to hear... hmmmmm....
He also sez things like "we are all one", "the earth is round"
and "that which isn't, is not". Profound.... sorry for the
sarcasm
It's tougher to believe that there might not be a God, that
there is no "purpose" to existance, that there is great pain
and suffering in the world and at times seems like a lot more
than the little pleasures we can grasp. It's also tougher to
believe that we have no choice in being here, we exist
because of our parents. We believe in things that give us
comfort...which is fine...scept that often these things end
up bringing us more pain than comfort...
if it works for u, then I'm happy for ya

posts and appreciate the positivity

Me and OTD... it is a strange thing. Actually, I haven't went in there for a couple of days, and I don't have what it takes right now to show on up... got a bass guitar with a somewhat warped neck that needs a truss rod adjustment, and a kitchen that needs clean...
Learyfan, I know what you mean, there is a business side that comes into play in music, as well... hehe. But I will not assume anything until I look into it some more.

OTD is awsome !
it's a Zen experience...
think about it, the board has little purpose and no direction.
Almost all the posts are off topic...and yet, it functions,
albiet in it's own dsyfunctional way. No one ever runs
out of things to talk about. It can get kinda hostile there,
but if u learn acceptance and not take things to seriously
it can be a lot of fun !

I'm just... failing to see the difference between this and scores of other self help books.
From what I'm gathering (and I'll admit I haven't read the books or anything) this seems to have all the depth of Chicken Soup for the Soul.

Just because what he says is what people want to hear doesn't nessessarily make it a scam. It's good to look out for these things, but don't write it off just because it happens to be what some people want to hear.

I read a few of the books (CWG 1 and "New Revelations") and
just gleaned thro some of the others at the books store.
I did like them.
The concept of no judgment really appealed to me, but when
I observe myself I find that I'm believing it only because
it sounds good to me and not because of some compelling
evidence. I'd like it to be true, but it'll take much more
convincing and probably direct experience for me to really
believe it.

Lucid, I am a sort of "sensitive" type. I recently came from a forum, where ALL of the interaction was like being in OTD. It was horrid. After I first arrived there, I tried to get people to be nice, and for a while, it seemed like people were being nicer.
Then, suddenly, it was my turn! Well, I finally became nasty back, and I was seriously not proud of myself. I think that in addition to them all being so nasty, and then me being nasty in return, it made me sick to my stomach, and I had to leave.
What being in that place made me realize is that people are mean just because they can be. The people I left behind were MEAN and they enjoyed it.
I'm not saying that the OTD forum here is like the place where I came from, because I haven't really been there too much. But it "resembles" the place I came from, and I am not of a mind to go back.
I like S&P just fine.

There's really no direct experience, other than death, that will prove it to without a shadow of a doubt.
The way I look at it, a leaf falls from a tree and becomes part of the earth from wence it came. The earth doesn't judge it. It doesn't send it to some non-earthly leaf hell. The leaf becomes part of the all again.
All I can do is assume that that's what happens to our soul when we "die". It only makes sense.

Actually, OTD sounds a bit like that place, some people really do
enjoy being mean. I just tend to take it in stride, dunno why but
it doesn't really get to me...strange, existential angst gets to
me more than anything "quantafiable"/"real" . No need to go there,
S&P suits u just fine

you're right learyfan, it does make sense, which is part of the
appeal. But we've been raised to belive in Hell etc, old beliefs
die hard.
One of the things that really made me question Walsh tho was his
interview with Larry King. Some callers asked some very interesting,
and straightforward questions about his work and he fumbled and
could give a reasonable answer. He also got quite defensive and
flustered and angry. Hardly the traits or response from a man
who is allegedly in contact with God.

Well, since the soul is an abstract construct, and we can't be sure that life is anthing but mechanical, it's not the only thing you can assume, and since the idea that we'd all return to "the whole" has no basis other than some people feel that it's true... it doesn't only make sense. It's just as much of an assumption as saying we go to heaven or hell.
It's religion, definately not philosophy.
