first time grow - texas yellow caps
    #22040498 - 08/04/15 02:14 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hello everybody!! This is my first time growing and I tried to go by the PF Tek as close as possible

The jars have been colonizing for about 32 days now.
I noticed a little bit of condensation on the inside of the jars and the bottoms I the jars seemed a bit too moisturized.

I did use wide mouth pint jars. I know I know, I've got some half pints goin now.
Anyways, there are some invertro pinheads growing towards the dry verm layer.

I need some advice what to do. I heard its bad to turn the jars upside down and dislodge the cakes but I had to do it on a few of them. I was reading up and saw that extra moisture on the bottom can stall them. Just hope it isn't contamination.

Here are a few pictures to show what I'm up against..

If they are starting to pin in the jars, that would indicate that they want to get out of the jars. Or do you intend to do an invitro grow? That is possible too, though it is not the method of choice.

I was waiting for them to fully colonize, there are still small spots on the bottom of the jars that aren't quite filled in.. Just figured I was just being impatient. I've thought about just birthing them. I don't think there are any contamination, they seem to have a good color and no bad smell is coming from the holes..

I'd just birth em and wash off the uncolonized parts at the bottom.

Atleast you figured it out and made some more with the correct jars:thumbup:

Do you plan on fruiting them in a shotgun fruiting chamber? I would recommend so if that wasn't already your plan.

Do you all think it would be better to just use a shotgun tub and grow them as cakes or use them to do a 50/50 casing?

Birth, dunk for 24 hours, roll in dry verm, make sure not to destroy the pins.

Congratulations

Okay! The birthing went well I suppose. The mushrooms that were wanting out fell out while birthing. I think they got pretty bruised, either that or a sign of contamination.. So here's a picture of the mushrooms that came out.

Tell me what you all think,

Dunked, Rolled, Put in FC

Here's some pics, check em out and let me know what you think. Could have gone heavier on the perlite maybe.

Make sure there's 6 or 7 inches of perlite

is the worst that can happen, it will dry out before they are done fruiting? I just thought 4-5" would be sufficient but I think I have about 3" or so in there..

Ya just low humidity. Add a few more inches and you're good
