Ok, so... The fan is off and the misting continues... The substrate seems to yellow every time I mist, but I'm guessing that is just because of the dryness. I hope that the bout of dehydration doesn't slow down the tub too much or ruin it. I have an event in a couple weeks I was hoping to have enough for myself +1 to get down on.

The yellowing of the sub is not a good sign, it's already bacterial. The sub will have a tough time trying to fruit, as it is spending most of its energy fighting off the contaminated area. You'll still get mushies, definitely enough for a few good trips.

The yellowing is not from bacteria, its just stressed from drying out. Yield will be diminished but it should still produce.

That was the hole the fan got pointed straight at... the other side looks fine. It's a good thing I'm not looking for too much volume from this particular mono. I figure I'll grab some tissue to clone from one of these fat mutants and hopefully I'll have a decent cluster come in that I can clone from as well. I have 8 58qt totes in the mail that I want to run experiments on the mutant culture in. See if I can't figure out what triggers the abnormal growth... should be fun.

I've never worked with this variety before but I'm guessing that chunky bastard near the top isn't done yet as the cap hasn't started lifting from it's bulbous stem. Most of the fruits I'm seeing are quite small and I'm guessing that is from the excess drying spell it went through. Should I pick it clean already and dunk it or give it some more time to try to recover?

Did you mist the tub already? The extreme drying of the sub surface has made it impossible for pins to mature. You should have been done harvesting your first flush by day 28.

Extremely dry in there.
I had that same variation of KSSS:

They change color when they're done IME. From that dark brown to a light brown.
I would mist over the course of the next few days to restablish water content and tighten my top polyfill up.

Re-stuffed my top holes 5 days ago,and I have been misting until there are small pools of water 2-3 times a day. The drying was pretty extreme as a few hours after each misting the water is completely absorbed.
The drying seems too extreme for the misting to rectify which is why I was considering plucking all of what is there and dunking it. It seems what it needs is for me to babysit it and add water as soon as it is absorbed, and I don't have time for that. If you think it can be recovered with the heavy misting, I'll keep that going and see. I'm not too worried about it as I spawned another tub yesterday.
And on a semi-related note, it was very satisfying to punt kick the fan responsible for this across the room...

You can dunk or mist , I wouldn't pluck any of those. the reason why I say mist is because the sub is dry but it should still have a fair bit of moisture in there seeing as it pushed out almost nothing. It's just really dry. Covering the surface with a good mist should be enough to rectify the dryness and hopefully stimulate the pins continued growth.

The problem you have OP is you killed the pin surface. There is no where for it to pin, all the myc on top is borderline dead. You might almost benefit from a scratch but its kinda a coin flip. It might really help, or it might push it over the edge. Thats sad cause it looked pretty healthy before it got dried to hell.

How can you tell dead myc from myc that just needs to be rejuvinated?

Ahh ,
But sometimes that yellow myc could just be drying out right? Or when it's already dried enough to turn yellow it's already dead?

Yeah. Sometimes if its just a little and conditions are fixed quickly the colony can take it back. But if it gets really far gone its pretty much trich food.

Well shit... I guess I'll keep misting what hasn't died yet and try scratching that bad corner. If that doesn't help, should I cut that patch of substrate out so what's left has a chance?
It is sad that it happened, but I think I've gotten what I wanted out of it already; a couple of clones and enough for me and my lady to party once. I'm gonna case the one I spawned yesterday with 50/50+ and the fan has been exiled, so this won't happen again.
I'm gonna keep documenting this one though for posterity. Thanks for the info.

Good to stay positive for right now I'd say just leave the sub as is. You might get something, you might not. But its really unimportant.
Seems you have at least learned something from this, that's more than many people get from a bad experience. I guarantee that in a year you will look back on this and think that it was positive. In fact you have discovered important aspects of your fruiting environment and believe me that can take time. I had poor results from a dozen tubs before I found out the fan was messing me up.
So kudos to you, them clones should be a fun time at any rate and will probably be worth more to you in the long run.
