Meditation and Mushrooms--Mario and Luigi?

Are they brothers?
Recently I read an article which said that the experience in long term meditation and short-term munching of shrooms is the same. That's what either the author or researcher said, I don't remember, I'm old. The rest of the paragraph showed promise. It was not, however, the focus of the article. I am on a quest, much like the quest for knowledge that led me to ordaining as a Theravada monk for an extended period of time. Most Thai men become monks at some point in their lives, but for very brief times. This was not meant to be temporary. I jumped in with both feet, giving up all (well, most) of my worldly possessions, and went into homelessness. It turned out well.
Now, I'm on another journey. I have birthed cakes in my SGFC and waiting for a sign from the Earth, that I will soon take my first trip, a month shy of my sixtieth birthday. I'm ready for the ride.
Has anyone here looked into their meditation and mushroom experiences? Has anyone sat while high?
I'm interested in the experience--and yes, opinions welcome--from anyone who has a desire to look at this kind of "mind expansion."
Cool?

Ha.
I 'meditated' the last two trips I had. I was listening to a lot of Terence talks, and he suggested doing such. By that I mean I ate the shrooms, went into a dark, quiet, inviting room by myself and laid there under the influence. My dogs and cat were there, but besides that it was me and my thoughts. I even wore ear-plugs to 'hear' the shrooms.
I laughed when I read your thread and thread title. The second experience, I had the super mario brothers music in my head the whole time I was tripping, even though I had in ear plugs. When I 'rollercoastered' to different levels, I heard the going up/down the pipe noise... The 'glug, gluyg, glug' noise. Not sure if it was my subconscious, or the shrooms themselves making the music/noises....
Powerful, nonetheless.
Once was incredibly good and joyous, once was difficult. Both fairly insightful, after reflection upon both.
I seemed to hear, feel, experience, and see more when doing it this way. As opposed to hanging out with friends and such while tripping.
Be careful, if it's your first time. I almost got lost in my hallway letting my dog out to pee. And I was incredibly worried he would get lost in my backyard.

Yes, of course I've sat while on psychedelics, mostly while on LSD while in college 1971-75, but much more recently with mushrooms. One can sit longer while on psychedelics, and Lama Anagarika Govinda said that even after his long training as a Lama, he never really grasped the teachings until he took LSD (mushrooms may well have afforded him the same insights). I find it efficacious to lie down and not maintain a rigid posture while submitting to the visionary phase and ego-death.
Have you heard of Ajaan Lee Dhammadharo (Geoffrey DeGraff)? I was given a book of his: Keeping the Breath in Mind & Lessons in Samadhi, which I have used extensively. The book originally was printed in 1956. It was given to me by a friend of his whom I met in grad school, a Thai student around 1979-80.

D'OH! HELLO! falcon! "Sixtieth," NOT sixteenth. How does someone who has been ordained as a monk and says "I'm old" get misread as being 16?
a month shy of my sixtieth birthday.

Geez. I don't meditate. I do do small doses now and then. The other day i ate what wasn't even a threshold amount of mushrooms and later in the day, four hours later, experienced a quiet alertness that wasn't cluttered with thought, something that usually only happens when I'm walking, which I wasn't. Ajahn's post brought that to mind an I wasn't sure how it could be related, I was distracted and misread his age.

How long do you sit? What kind of meditation do you do? Expand a bit, please?
Great information, everyone. I'm a couple of weeks from harvest, so this is research for me. Thank you, all.

My best advice would be to count your breaths or just focus on your breathing in general. Don't worry about time. Sit for as long as you feel comfortable and enjoy the show.
You're going to have a blast

mushrooms only show u a picture, then u start to think about what happened make up stories and ideas.
this isnt spirituality this is illusion,
met many many people who got caught in this trap. and when u think about that u arent. think a bit more and if u watch carefully u find the little flaws in the program. little glitches u try to defend your self you are trying to think u are different better more open..
u start to read about it, books and on the internet and what u create there is a nice big spiritual ego. a balloon filled with thoughts and ideas
dont lie to yourself its better for you if u open your eyes now then never the lack of clear comprehension during psychedelic experiences is the culprit and the cause of all the theories that follows the trip
dont create another EGO try to see what the EGO is
meditation shows u reality, the gained insights transform the mind nothing else works to that degree only meditation.
many people got stuck where they think they are the universe one love there is only one i am everything and so on.
thats only the consciousness, but the observer is still there the I the ME

Meditation and mushrooms csn both put you into a state of meditation, but it's much easier with mushrooms, and natural for an experienced tripper. Many are never able to enter a state of meditation by trying to meditate. Meditating does not = meditation.
But they are completely different things, and I wouldnt call them related, because mushrooms are a beast of their own. They are literally, like a beast. And they will make themselves known when the time is right, or whatever it is that they tune you into.
Xx How long do you sit?
However long it takes you to get into a state of meditation. For me thats anwhere from usually 20 mins to an hour, or it just doesn't happen, at which point I realize that tripping probably isn't a good idea. Best to trip when there's no heavy baggage.
Xx What kind of meditation do you do?
My own. But it's built on Vipassana, which I learned years ago.
Xx Expand a bit, please?
A great book is 'Mindfulnes in Plain English'. The guy who wrote it is wise, and straightforward in his meditation instructions.
