Gym questions: Anyone know for sure if active ones are found in my state?
    #22037977 - 08/03/15 02:43 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

My experience bioassaying the two know varieties of gyms found in New Mexico yielded only results consistent with the presence of alpha-pyrones similar in effect to kava kava.  There was a notable tranquillizing effect, but nothing else.  I have a number of questions, since my early attempts may not have included enough Gymnopilus junonius to rely on.  First off-- if it is listed in the Shroomery's State by State location, does it merely reflect the presence of the mushroom or does it list the presence of known active species?  Has anyone had success bioassaying these in New Mexico?  Also, how certain is it that activity, known to decrease as one travels west across the USA is from subspecies variation?  Is it possible that the substrate makes a difference?  I find these on dead fallen pine logs-- On the east coast, there is red pine, on the west coast and in my state there is yellow pine.  Has anyone correlated mushroom potency to substrate? I have brought this up many times, but no one wanted to provide me any untreated (fungicide) red pine to experiment with-- reminder, it is NOT ILLEGAL in New Mexico to grow mushrooms, which is is why much psilocybe research is conducted at NMSU.
