White gills labyrinth pattern

Pure white no pattern

N/A

Firm almost like styrofoam

Thanks.  Someone previously cut off several of these from the same tree.  So I figured there must be a reason as though these must be good for something.

You're welcome. They are a tree pathogen, a type of "white rot". They kill off weak or damaged trees.

Oh cool.  That makes sense to me now.  I didn't completely understand the ecological purpose of mushrooms that are parasitic to living trees before--population control.
