CAn shrooms be briefly frozen?

I want to briefly stash some shrooms outside under the snow in a bag, will they loose potency if its only for a few days. sorry very very dumb question, its sort of an emergency

Why do I always hear about people storing them in freezers then? Or maybe it was a refrigerator. hmmm. Well Im glad I know this now thanks :smile:

actually --- once they are dried -- they may well be able to be frozen and stored. not sure.

i was referring to fresh shrooms, although its not specified. my bag.

Yeah I'd say they are about 99% dry.

if they are crispy craker dry thier is no harm. No water=no freezing thats my 2 cents though

if there dry it'll be okay, try to get them as dry as possible though since water in them will cause the cells to rupture = not good.

You can't freeze fresh shrooms; they will turn to glop when they thaw. That will render them useless. You can't store them in an insulated container either, as someone suggested, because even an insulated container will drop its contents to ambient temperature overnight unless the contents generate some heat of their own.

There are only two ways to freeze shrooms and expect them to still be viable; freeze-drying (very expensive equipment required) or cracker-dry them, then freeze them. This requires a day in front of a fan, then several days sealed in an airtight container with a desiccant (Dry-Rite).

No other technique will work.
