Completely strange growth - Malabar

This is my second grow with Malabar and both times I've gotten this growth just overtaking every inch of my casing layer.

As you can see pins are coming in now, my last grow produced about 64 oz wet. Here's a picture of my last malabar grow results and it looked very similar with this growth.

Hope things work out as good this time. Anyone else ever grow this strain and have this growth? It's pretty interesting. Never have seen anything like it.
BTW it smells really normal and a strong mushroom oder.

Brefeldia maxima, Maybe? Strange, don't normally see that in cube cult. What's your bulk sub?

My sub is just coir and verm.
Also, I have two other tubs next to this that are completely normal looking. I grew a few other tubs with my last grow too and only this strain is making this weird growth. Same vendor and everything so I'm chalking it up to genetics.

I seriously doubt that what you're dealing with is genetic mutation of cubensis mycelium. Defnitely some sort of slime mold or other fungus.

I've got malabar, and for what it's worth, I've seen that same growth. Yours is maybe a little more pronounced, but same basic appearance. I've been assuming it was aerial myccellium, or just some kind of consolidation of the casing layer that was otherwise normal. I even broke off a little chunk, and it smelled just like fresh mushrooms.

Mold just happens to grow on only this strain 2 times? Also people have reported this growth on this strain. I looked it up last time I grew and had it happen. Just seems like that can't be true.

I've also grown cubes, and thats not how its supposed to look. not 100% sure its stroma either, unless stroma has many variances, looks really cool in its own freaky way tho!

Yup, nothing smells off, and it bruises blue when my wife drops the lid on it by accident (thanks wife).

And you've never considered that the spores from this contamination are floating around your grow area and your sterile technique has allowed it to infiltrate on 2 occasions? If it is cube myc, it looks like shit and I would switch to something that doesn't look like that.

Ok, Lets consider the facts
1) I have grown this 2 times both side by side with other cubes that do not contain this growth.
2) The growth did not seem to affect the actual growth of healthy fruit bodies.
3) I'm not the only one that has this growth on this particular strain.
4) I've never seen this growth in my years of growing on any other strain or grow.
5) nothing is discolored and it doesn't smell like anything other than mycelium.
At the end of the day, if I get a good 3 flushes like I did last time I don't care what it looks like.
I would like to consider the possibility that this could simply be a characteristic of this strain as I see no other evidence that this is a mold or fungi other than it just looks weird.

interesting, I just started some Malabar on agar and none of my dishes germinated except one, and it exploded. I can tell it is a very fast growing strain. Be interesting if I get the same results.

Yeah, my jars (MS) were very aggressive and fast. Just ripped right through my grain.

Would it be possible for it to have been stroma to for the shapes but was overtaken by the fast and aggressive malabar myc? Idk much about stroma but from searching and looking at pictures it does look similar to this, but IMO(which isn't much since I'm pretty new to this) if last time the same thing happened and it flushed like in the pic more power to you.
I'm very interested to see how it flushes/is affected by the weird growth pattern whatever it may be. Keep us posted on results, also it would t hurt to scope some of it a see if it's all myc or stroma/combo. Try cutting a blob with a knife to see the inside, it would still bruise outside from the myc on top, if it bruises inside too then you just have the craziest looking/behaving myc I've seen in my show time in the hobby.

They have had what they love most taken from them, be it freedom, love, money, or anything for that matter.
