It's the end of the world as we know it
    #2203437 - 12/27/03 03:19 AM (20 years, 3 months ago)

I go to Yahoo.com to read news articles sometimes. It's the end of the world, I'm telling you. Just look at some of these headlines.

Iran appeals for help after killer quake
Mad cow issue hits US beef exports
China says it has a suspected SARS case
Schools named after Confederates debated
Michael Jackson: It's OK to sleep with kids

Lotsa people dying in Iran, mad cow infested burgers (that will help the bad economy, I'm sure), China is going to spread SARS throughout the world, I saw on the news today all 50 states are now epidemic with the new flu virus and 60,000 people will die this season, people are actually debating whether or not to change the name of a goddamn middle school because it was named after a Confederate slave owner, and Michael fucking Jackson says it's OK to sleep with kids.

It's over, guys.  :nonono:

It's like the present is a bad ending to a DC comic

if anyone even gets that.

Bad stuff has happened since the dawn of time. I'm sure when Thak fell off the cliff, the remainder of his family tribe felt that the end of the world was soon upon them.
Peace.

But then they turned the tragedy around by marketing Thak dolls (you know, with a club, animal skin and dreadlocks) and became the very first capitalists...

Iran appealing for help from other countries is worse than those events?

Damn, I so wanted to let the laughter roll but I had to physically hold it in as it is 2 am here and people are sleeping.. I imagine my face must have looked really fucking odd.

That really reminds me of this book I've read a few times, Politically Correct Bed Time Stories or something.. its been ages and I don't see how the connection is strong enough for that memory to be brought up, but there it is....
Peace.

People who hold a negative view of the world look to those who think so positively and consider them delusional as well.

Myself, I am more of a positive guy, but I keep my feet in reality. Who here hasn't had a bad day and at least momentarily thought "damn, we are fucked!"?
Peace.

"I'm sure when Thak fell off the cliff..."
So that's what happened to Thak!  Wait, so then who do I have in my freezer?
Yeah, I'd say you're both stoned and delusional, Fireworks God.  Not that that's a bad thing,
of course, but from what I remember of Politcally Correct Bedtime Stories there's no real
connection.
And as for all that The End is Nigh stuff...  Look, buddy, the world has endured worse.
And reality can survive contemplation by sentient beings (even if it does mess up a little
sometimes)...  I'd say this show's far from over.  Don't let the fact that things are bad
and getting worse discourage you, buddy.  Things have never been better. :smirk: :smirk:

U know. this stuff has been around way back since jesus, and before. But whats going to decide what is the end of the world, is whether or not people decide to change that fact. If you were to see that people were giving up more over the ages, and messing up more and more.. then yeah i would say it might be pretty damn close to the end of the world. But i dont know man, ive thought about that too. But it seems like the world is just continually going to shit. Maybe its just feelings of depression... i dont know, i couldnt answer that.

I know what you mean, it's a gross feeling. It just feels like everything keeps getting worse and worse, that old times were always better and things were always nicer. People always say, "Oh well, that's life" but you know what, that doesn't fix a thing because you still feel all depressed and shit and everything sucks.

That's because our world actually does suck, and it's because human beings are flawed (jealous, greedy, etc). It's obviously not getting better.

Ouch, that's pretty heavy-sounding... Personally, I don't feel the world is going to shit,
but then I don't have Bush as my head of state. And we did our SARS thing last year. Cost
me my job, it did! And hey, America can always trade its diseased beef to Canada, and we'll
give you... um... our diseased beef.

Basically, of all the places in the world right now, I'm not sure Western societies should
be the ones feeling like the world is ending. We're causing the world for so many people
for no particularly good reason that it seems a little self-indulgent to get all panicky
while living in the lap of luxury.

well i dont hold my ground to texas... lol, i speaking for people on the whole. I doubt the majority of people could really care less about the direction of our society. maybe im wrong, i dont know. If the world is going to end, its going to end, i just do what i can to hold on to the world that ive come to make for myself, some good things out of life, things you cant buy in stores, or take away from other people.

You know, things have always been like this, if not more volatile.
It's just communication these days is more advanced than ever before.

You don't think people thought the world was gonna end during the Black Plague in Europe? Europe lost 1/3 of it's population! Yet, we are still here.

Yeah, I was content to let someone else do that, but I've been fighting the urge since I
first laid eyes on this thread.

Yeah, kwiaias, it does kinda seem that the majority of you lot don't care where society is
going. Tragic, really... Makes it seem kinda lewdakriss the way Bush's lot go tossing
their weight around in the name of democracy. Luckly that way of life isn't sustainable.
Could get messy when that society implodes, hope I don't get any on me.

Man, Hat Shaped Hat is a spectacular song!
