You shouldn't be paying more then 20 dollars for 50 pounds of oats.

Go to a feed store.

Same tub, different cluster. A few others thrown in the tray from a second mono.

Good to see the bebes happy again.

The previous cluster dried to 25g.  Not too shabby.

I was not experimenting with spent grains. I want to attempt to sterilze fermented grains. Grains that have been cooked and then left out for a few days. Purposely allowing bacteria to get a head start on breaking down some of the more complex proteins and carbohydrates then bring all microbial life to a hault, by pc'ing, before inoculating it with mushroom mycelium.

Sorry, Psilo. I will not be conducting anymore experiments until I finish my monotub project. After I know and understand environmental conditions and metabolic activity within a system then I will be able to study the effects of nutrion and microbial symbiosis.

One step at a time but I'm a lifer. There will always be more work than I have time for. If you enjoy my work or my areas of interest, I wouldn't mind helping you out if you were interested in studying it for yourself.

My areas will always be contaminations lol. I just love all fungi so much . I'd be interested in the science behind the bacterial digestion. It'd be even cooler if you isolated what bacteria you specifically wanted and inoculated sterile jars with it. I'd choose one that doesn't form endospores

On a side note, it'd be amazing if you could find beneficial microbes and just let them take over for awhile. Then inoculate cubensis without even needing the pc. So many possibilities lol.

They are all some really good ideas, mad. I especially like the one about adding beneficial microbes. How would one go about retrieving such specimens?

glomus species may be a good start!

try intradices intraradices very easy to get hold of and easy to care for lol

i thought about adding glomus intraradices to such an extent that no other bacteria can get a hold.

and then adding cubensis myc lol

but maybe nitrogen fixing bacteria may no be the best lol

anyway most soil bacterias are easily sought out

in nature cubes just plow through sub with glomus intradices infected.

indoors may be the same.

if numbers was high enough no contam would be possible

you could also try firefang - actinomycetes
thermophillic bacteria.

if you can colonise hpoo fully it may work without and pasturising
they have a sort of symbiotic relationship with cubes anyway.

another good bet would be lactic and gastric bacteria.
get it from cow poop and expand.

this too helps with fungi growth on poop in nature.

your hitting some of may favorite subjects here lol
i love a chance to stretch the old grey matter!

I personally like Oats more so than Rye..

As taGyo said, you shouldn't pay no more than $20 for a 50lb bag.
I get mine at the feed store for $14/50lb bag

Oats are easier prep IMO.

I actually tried to prep my rye like I prep my oats but they bursted.

I agree, but its not like the RR rye prep is very hard IMO.

I'd much rather use oats though. Way cheaper. Rye is hardly an option for me with the prices. Feed stores do not carry it where I am at.

No one is saying it's hard. I had great results with Rye. I just got tired of all the nit-picky shit.

Just more work then rye lol. When you're prepping like 20 jars a time, the little things like no soak, barely any dry/strain, PCing right away helps

Yeah if I could get both at the same price, I'd probably still use oats. I haven't seen anything to suggest rye is better as far as results. Aloha uses white sorghum, which is interesting.

I'm playing clone wars this week  (1 vs 1 vs 1).  They're all young GT pins cloned from small clusters.  Inoculated from clean agar wedges onto whole oats, then CVG cased with 50/50 peat/verm.  I should have patched but didn't feel like pasteurizing more.

Looking good so far   Lets hope they don't all abort like last time :tongue2:

I'll post updates in a day or two :nyan:

(To the naked eye they don't look that wet )
