Hiding things in the process list?
    #2202990 - 12/27/03 12:11 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Lets say i am running Winblows XP. lets also say i have a program that i want to run constantly, maybe a keystroke logger. Now, let's also assume this program is hidden from view in every conceivable way except for it's showing up in the process list. How would one go about taking this program out of the list without turning it off?

The program has an option to take it out of Win 9x process lists, but it doesn't work for XP. :frown:

Thanks in advance for the help!

I don't know about hiding a single process but you can restrict access to the task manager alltogether.

If you are trying to hide it from someone with admin then I think it is impossible.

the thing is, if i restricted access to the list altogether, then the person that i am hiding the program from will know something is up. he uses the task list alot. my all-in-one printer has a bunch of tasks that are all named about the same. so what i did was rename the keylogger to something very similar to those processes.

the thing is, my little brother likes to do things he shouldn't be doing, especially on my computer in my home. i cant be over him every second he claims he came over to do homework. i figured i would watch him for a few days to see if he is doing stuff he shouldn't be doing. i just didn't want him hitting ctrl alt delete and shutting down my watcher. i just wanted things to look normal as possible.

Tell the little fucker that there is a new trojan/macro whatever virus than utilizes the task manager to shut down virus and firewall processes so you have disabled it. I would just give him a limited account that will not allow him to shut down system processes. If it isn't his PC he shouldn't have admin or super user privilages anyway. And if he thinks something is up then he will stop what he is doing which is the point anyway right?

"And if he thinks something is up then he will stop what he is doing which is the point anyway right? "

well, kinda but not really. i want to know exactly what it is he is doing. right now i just have a very damming suspision that he is doing something wrong.

As for the whole limited access deal, that would cause more problems than it would solve. i know it sounds difficult to comprehend, but i would rather not go into all the details of what is going on.

Fair enough. I don't think you can hide a process. I couldn't find anything .

i think it is a little more than porn. but like i said, i have no proof, therefore i dont know exactly what he is doing. i do know that he has been working on cracking a few games. then again, that may be a front. i also came across a video of what appears to be a snuff film, real or not, i dont want that shit on my computer.

i have renamed the program to go in line with my printer, scanner, copier, etc. that way it just looks like another printer task. i also buried the program about 30 folders deep.

I downloaded a vidio off winmx once that sounded like something innnocent (Brittany Spears something or other) that turned out to be snuff. Like you said fake or not doesn't matter. It made me sick to think of some kid downloading that and getting a suprise.

Snuff videos are people being killed for the sake of the pleasure of morons.
