Large Millet Casing
    #2202782 - 12/26/03 09:43 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

A friend has a millet casing made with 10 colonized qts of substrate.  the casing has a bottom and top casing layer.  Bottom layer = 50/50 verm/coir of about .5 inch.  The top casing layer is from the same casing batch and is about .75 inches.  The substrate depth is approx 3.5 inches.  The bastard was covered with aluminum foil and placed in an incubator at 82F on dec 18th.  So far there are no signs of contamination... only smells of coir, and the mycelium hasn't peeked through the top casing layer yet.  It has been 8 days.  Do larger casings require more incubation time?  Help him please   Thanks

yup, i have some that have been going since December 17 and they're about the same depth, still got no growth. Try like 85ish degrees and 50-70% humidity when colonizing. I use a tub in tub incubator and it works AWSOME for colonizing. best of luck and check on it every now and then to make sure parts of it arent contamming and if they are, cut it out and patch it up before it spreads.

I dunno really, lots of different variables to consider like ur substrate depth and spawn ratio and temp, humidity, moisture content....but I would say no more than like 2 weeks, especially since ur spawn rate is so high. Good luck.

maybe your top layer was deeper than you thought.did you measure the depth whilst making it or use guesstimation?

I think the water content of casing layer also influences, right?

I guestimated it... it is under an inch... but over a half inch... I just misted his casing... we'll see what happens... do you think I should poke holes in the aluminum foil to give it a bit more oxygen?
