The best response is no response?

Last night I learned a huge lesson. While at some kickback, some guy kept poking at me to start an arguement. It began when he began a discussion on gay rights. For some reason he was very abrasive to homosexuals (I really couldn't figure out why). I never had met him before, but he was grilling my intensely on whether or not I supported this or not.
I kept trying to switch the topic. "Where did you get this weed?" "I dont really care much" "I dont know" "How is ur internship going?"; everytime he tried to ask me about a new huge political issue, I tried to either avoid it or change the subject. Eventually it turned into an arguement because my attempts to misdirect it failed completely
But looking back, this whole issue could have been avoided had I said literally nothing. I feel a lot of arguement/conflicts can be avoided by saying nothing. I have done this over text, but I was wondering how to execute this in person? Do I turn to them with a blank face? Do I go on pretending i never heard what the person said?(ie not looking and continuing the activity i was doing? packing a bowl, checking my phone etc.) Do I smile to indicate no hard feelings?

why dont you just say you dont want to talk politics? that really isnt an unreasonable thing to say. some people just dont always feel like debating
straight up ignoring someone when they know you can hear them will probably piss them off even more. and its equally disrespectful as asking too many questions or prying

Just point out the obvious like you just did. "Just stop. I've been gently trying to change the subject and your not taking the hints so- stop trying to argue about everything."
What you did would normally work. Some folks are dense and you have to be direct.

People regularly come at me looking for debates, probably because they want to prove something by debating a lawyer. Sometime I engage, but if I don't want to, I generally use one of three techniques:
1. If it's someone I don't respect, like, or give a shit about, I'll often say, "It really wouldn't be fair for me to do intellectual battle against an unarmed man." and then ignore the dude.
2. If it's someone I will have to deal with again and must keep cordial, I'll say, "Dude, I do this all day. Unless you're going to pay my hourly rate, can I just enjoy my off-time?"
3. If it's someone I care about, I say something like, "I'm all for [social justice, world peace, whatever's relevant], but right now, I'd be happy with just [a cold drink, more chips, whatever]" and that usually signals that I'm not interested in talking about it at that moment.

This could be true in the situation painted above. But I am really really for a template to deal with many more situations
For example, there are many other situations where a person does not realize he is treading in unessacary territory

I was thinking this

I will try this in a direct manner

I would say this is only really true if you're speaking to Law Enforcement. Every solicitor, lawyer or barister has always said the same thing to me, and it's saved my ass a lot of times.
If you can fight, stand the fuck up for yourself, people, even gang pricks will respect you if you're willing to stand behind what you say (although if they had a gun to my head, it might change my actions ).

People get way too butthurt about politics so I generally just refrain from saying anything that isn't super generic. If I was in your situation topdog I probably would've just told him to shut up or just avoided him most of the njfht

The best response, I've found, is simply asking why they ask. Never stop questioning them until you and everyone around them know's their integrity is weak. And when you feel comfortable knowing that it is a pointless topic, just say oh ok. If they have the balls to ask again, say something like didn't we just talk about this? x) Have some fun with it. Usually anyone who wants to fight, physical or verbal, will do and say just about anything. Entertain them but always be in control.
--------------------
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Psalm 12:6 The words of the Lord are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Hebrews 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear. Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

I think you know what's really going on and you should have just told him that it's OK for him to take a pecker in his pooper but he should balance things out by sucking a cock at the same time, you know, to effectively make him water tight

My solution to awkard situations is to work up a nice, STINKY fart, then interrupt him by saying "wait! Shhh! do u Hear that?" then right when its real quiet, i let out my bottled up fart as loud as possible.
Then i say "fuck! I shit my pants. I gotta go". Thats when u leave holding your hands on your asshole.
Should work perfectly
im still waiting on the situation where i actually need to use this escape tactic.

I learned a valuable secret on this topic. Whenever somebody asks me a question that I don't want to answer, I say nothing. This is wise because it avoids having to lie or redirect the question. Then the person can't use whatever you said against you. They can only speculate. YMMV, but it has worked well for me in many situations.

Well regarding what topic? If you poke into people lives and get in their faces they will ignore you
otherwise, that is generally messed up imo
