Peculiar, toy-like, reddish mushroom
    #22027181 - 08/01/15 06:59 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

This was found in sandy lake coast close to woods and heather clearing. The mushroom was about 2cm in size with a swollen conical stipe and a diskoid reddish brown hat. Close by was another dead 9very old and dry) specimen of same dimensions. Interesting to learn about the peculiar tiny mushroom.

Thanks, I am working on it. I think the swollen stem is rather atypic and my mushroom is the same as this (also from Finland); unf. not fully identified.

At the end, after looking at some Finnish books, the most plausible identity is Laccaria laccata. L. bicolor and L. amethystea should have lilac tones in the stipe and gills. Other reported Laccaria (e.g. L. proxima) are rare and did not match well although one needs microscopy for surety.

So in my opinion this is Laccaria laccata with an atypical. stipe. Thanks for your help

I thought that it looked like L. laccata myself but with a very bulbous stem. So much so that i didn't suggest it. The stems aren't usually bulbous at all let alone those proportions. L. amethystea is very lilac in the cap and stem, apart from when it fades, but it doesn't fade to orange anyway. So yeah it is definitely not that. I don't have any experience with the others. If it indeed was L. laccata there should be others around. They grow in fairly big groups. Also take into account the habitat.

Thanks, I think these are the typical Laccaria laccata - larger and typical stipes :-)

Even they look meaty compared to the ones i see. Although it's hard to tell from that perspective.
