What is the correct brand/type of lime and peat to purchase for 50/50+?

I've never cased cubes before, but I figured that I should give it a shot at least once or twice.

I've been told that hi-yield hydrated lime was best option, and that garden lime shouldn't be used.

As for the peat, i was told that sphagum peat moss was best, but I'm not entirely sure.  I was told to get peat that does not have any fertilizers added.  I found this type online:

Thanks!

If you want to go the easy route...pasteurize jiffy mix

Personally I would just look for any pH balanced potting soil and mix it 50/50 with verm.  Jiffy is even easier if you can find it.

I did/do the whole peat + hydrated lime + crushed oyster shell thing.  If you buy the big bales of peat, you need to spend a good amount of time picking out sticks and breaking up clods.  I think probably the miracle grow stuff with fertilizer would probably be better since it might be a higher quality.

In terms of lime types:
Hydrated Lime is an actual base (Calcium Hydroxide,) it can make the casing very basic if you use too much.

Regular lime (aka Garden Lime I think?) and Oyster Shell/Oyster shell flour are all calcium carbonate, which simply neutralizes acidity (baking soda and vinegar type shit.)  Probably hard to use too much, but you will have to use more.

I believe hydrated lime is included in these recipes since you can get the job done with a lot less.  Commercial growers may also have it on hand for pasteurizing straw.  Garden Lime or oyster shell flour will get the job done, you would need to use more.

I believe the thinking with the oyster shells is that they continue to buffer over time.  They also texturally make it so that a pin on the surface of the casing will have a hard time being directly attached to the substrate below.

I like to add most of my water to peat mixed with oyster shells and hydrated lime, since the peat is really what we're targeting with these agents to neutralize, not the vermiculite.

Horticultural Hydrated Lime (probably what you want) is sold at most nurseries and sometimes at lowes/home depot/ace.  I think you can also buy it for concrete mixes in 50lbs bags, but that may be the shit that people say burns their mycellium.  I would think it's usable if you mix well enough and use the right quantity.

Oyster Shells are sometimes sold at nurseries, and also at some pet/feed stores to give to chickens.

Oyster Shell Flour/Garden Lime/Calcium Carbonate: Nurseries, sometimes.

Gets a little expensive buying all this shit.  Again, I'd look for a pH balanced potting soil.  There is some nature's gift :pimpslap: or some shit they sell at home depot that looked decent, forest mulch, coir, peat.  50/50 that with verm and I think you're good.

I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister.  I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave.  I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent.
Triggered yet?

Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."

No, this does not look right...
