Mountain Dew Can Grow

Hello all. Just wanted to ask if this looks like healthy mycelium to anybody here that is knowledgeable on the topic. It was a small amount of bird seed prepared using Doc34's WBS TEK and coir/verm using Damion's TEK stored in a mountain dew can cut in half. The substrate at hand is approximately 2 inches deep for anyone who is wondering. Thank you for your time.

That looks.... startlingly healthy. Perhaps just a little bit of bacteria but... it looks like it's well on the way to fruiting without issue.

Much appreciated. It's just some leftover coir I scraped out of the bucket with a spoon and some bird seed that I scraped out of the jars haha. Wanted to see if I could fruit with it in my BRF chamber. The biggest challenge of all was seeing if it would grow in the can. There's also some polyfill sticking out there in case anyone is interested. I sterilized the can with H202 and soap.

No you didn't. You washed it with h2o2 and soap. Probably barely even sanitized it. But certainly not sterilized. Nor does it have to be at that stage.

Apologies, I wasn't fully aware of the difference in the terms. I now am. Thanks.

Well, the most important takeaway is that sterile conditions aren't a goal after the point where the high-nutrient grain is already colonized. By that point washing with soap is totally fine. But if you wash something with soap and expect that to leave it free of microorganisms then that's where the terminology is important.

Lol yeah, I understand. I've been a lurker/grower for two years and understand that after the mycelium has taken over the substrate, that's where it has the best chance of prevailing over everything in there and that it's never 100% sterile, it's just a matter of if it can overtake everything first. I was just posting this to make sure nothing in there looked like bacteria to anyone else as this was the first bit of grain I've ever done.
P.S. Cool tea TEK! Definitely going to use it.

Just got my first pin on this, haha. Wasn't really expecting anything to come of this considering the substrate is only 1 - 1.5 inches deep. (I didn't account for the dip in the can when I mentioned the depth above. Still, pretty cool. I'll post a pic of the first flush when it's done.

Yeah, probably a better idea for better fruits, but I just wanted to see if this would even work. The bird seed and coir for this had been sitting out for like 12 hours in a pretty dirty environment after I set some tubs up. Just kinda threw it in here, not expecting much at all. If I ever do it again, I'll try to go about it in a better way.
