Exertional compartment syndrome - I think I have it in left calf

Hey, so I run a lot.  I have my whole life.
I play soccer and basketball a decent bit, too.

About six months I noticed a weird feeling in my left calf that reminded me a bit of shin splints/stress fracture.

I waited (didn't run, dance, or play sports) a bit to let it heal but it was still there.

I waited a month and a half more and it was still there.

I got my leg x-rayed and it looked normal and healthy.

Fast forward to now.  It has been six months since my first symptoms.  I haven't ran in roughly three months.  I played basketball, too, three months ago and towards the end of the game my lower left leg was almost completely numb. 

As I type this my left calf is tight.  I haven't done anything today except go to work, sit down for 8 hours basically, and come back home.  I am trying to stretch daily, but it doesn't seem to help.

I just moved to a new city a month ago, and don't have a doctor set up here yet, but I am trying to get one this coming up week.

My question is: has anyone here had experience with exertional compartment syndrome?  I want the full story. 

Did you have to have a fasciotomy? 
Did you use a boot to wear while you slept?  Did it help?
Did routine massages and/or physical therapy sessions cure you?
