Why are car dealers assholes?

They always assume I can't afford the best car they have, and then they try to screw me on the price. Jeez
Went to an Audi dealership with my dad who happens to be looking to buy a new Audi Q7. The guy promptly told us that it was probably out of our price range.
We left and went to another dealership after telling the guy we'll go check out the dealership down the road instead.
Lost a sale too. My dad ended up buying a brand new 2015 Infiniti QX80 . Around 70k with taxes
Probably because we pulled up in an 08 outback he thought we were poor.

If he blatantly said that, thats fucked up. Next dealer ship.
If you told him your budget and he said thats probably out of your budget. Then he was being honest.

Naw. We introduced ourselves and told him we wanted to look at the Q7s, and he told us they were pretty expensive and probably out of our price range

buying new is such a waste of money, let other people buy them, to find the lemons, lemons get fixed, u get a car less likely to be a lemon, unless they try to sell it to you with it 'patched' per say.
either way the money you save will easily pay for most repairs leaving you with money for honey leather

Partly because there is a lot of pressure on them to make good sales. I'm not sure but I imagine most of them operate on a largely commission based payscale. Also because the dealerships hire people of a certain personality type because they know they can pressure people into buying stuff they can't afford.

Buying new is actually a great decision if you can afford to do it. The car will never be as good as it is in the first 50k miles. Plus, if you're the only owner then you can take care of it the right way from day 1. A car that's been well taken care of since it was driven off the lot is going to last a LOT longer than a car that multiple owners never bothered to take proper care of.
Given the option, I would always buy new. On the other hand, I don't go for cars over 20k like some of you crazy people.

I agree with this. I don't know how many times ive seen somebody open their door into the car parked next to it, or bump one trying to get out of their parking spot. Plus ive been hit three times with all being the other drivers dumb fault, one was hit and run and niether of them took responsibility. I will admit it would be nice having a newer car but after witnessing things like that I am very content in my beat up car.

You should have gotten a different salesman at the same dealership and bought the car with cash.

Everybody gets profiled man, it's BS. My wife at the time, my kid and myself went to get some assistance once (food stamps) because she was out of work and I made minimum wage. They called us up to the window and told us we were dressed to nice and not to waist our time. Because we weren't dirty and trashy looking didn't mean we didn't need help. Told them thanks a lot, we would just continue buying them off crack heads for 50 cents on the dollar.

This is so wrong is funny. The break in period is when a car is at its worst. All that servicing cost, rego, taxes, stamp duty, all the other fees. Then you drop atleast 5k just driving it off the lot. Then another 10k in about the first 20000km. One of the stupidest financial decision a person can make.
If you really want a new car buy one just after the break in period. Almost impossible for someone to trash it that fast. But its not hard to tell if a car has been flogged. If its a luxury car, most mechanics dont charge much to check it over.

The salesman was probably trying the old play hard to get routine and it backfired on him.
I will probably buy a new car in the next few years. i'll get one near the end of the model year just after the new models come out. They are desperate to get rid of any old stock they still have so you get a brand new car at a discount price.
