Hyphal Knots???
    #22024926 - 07/31/15 03:53 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys,  I have had three trays fruiting in an SGFC for a little less than a week and I'm starting to notice a lot of white knots on the top of the sub as well as a few pins.

I'm assuming these are hyphal knots which from my experience on here, are a good sign.  But I also am noticing an above average amount of metabolites.  The metabolites seem normal-ish to me since I let the trays sit fully colonized for about 5 days. So maybe the myc is just sweating.

What do you guys think of the white knots?

Just placed in SGFC:

5 days (later) in SGFC:

Note: There are a lot of rye berries mixed in, the ratio was like 1:1 because I had more spawn that room for trays, you'll notice a lot of brown spots poking through the myc. but it's just the rye.

Those are most likely hyphal knots, but how is the perlite in the SGFC going to do its job if it's like... 90% covered?

I would cut down on the misting, the surface is getting waterlogged and may be inhibiting proper pin formation.

I wonder what went wrong from colonization to fruiting...

I cut back on the missing and that is seeming to trigger more pins. It also looks a little healthier today.  I wonder if 3 tray in there is too much? They are off the perlite and everything, however.

Why do you still have the lids on the trays if you're trying to fruit them???

Nope, looks fine.

If you mist to much it won't pin because you don't give the substrate time to evaporate the water. A soaked substrate will continue to colonize or just stall until conditions are optimal. A wet substrate will have problems when it comes to fruit formation.

:whathesaid:

Remove the lids from the smaller cakes, not the whole SGFC lid.

Are you misting the lid?

The mushrooms will grow upwards and towards the light. Remove the small lids off the trays inside the SGFC.
This will be very bad for the mushrooms fresh air exchange and the light should be 'white'
I see some small mushrooms on the top photos so that's a good sign. Fan around 4 times a day and mist once or twice depending on how wet they look, It wants to be shiny but not too wet as it needs to evaporate that water. Fine mist spray is best.

It would be worth looking in to a Monotub Rather than a SGFC When growing shrooms with Rye. Requires no Perlite or maintenance

LOL!:facepalm: that was just showing the clearance, that pic was taken just to show the setup before I fruiting.  I was lazy and didn't feel like taking another pic.  But here is one from today:

And here they are from the top.  I've cut back on the misting..

The middle tray keeps collecting pools of water. Idk if it's because the sub is uneven or if I was misting too heavily before I cut back.

Looking Good  The tubs will hopefully explode with pins soon!
They are looking healthier than the first photo.

Pools of water can be because of an uneven sub and over misting like you said, If pools appear don't mist the tub just fan it to try evaporate all that water :mushroom2:

Things seem to be going alright I guess...  Probably could have gotten a better pinset if I didn't over mist for the first 5 days but what can you do but learn from your mistakes.

Edited*** it was telling me my the pics were deleted by the poster even though I just uploaded them. Idk if anyone else had that problem while clicking them. So I reloaded them.

Double EDIT: I still can't see my own pics, they won't enlarged when clicked and instead say "deleted by poster" anyone know what the deal is with this??
