I'd like to know why too. Casings are the shit! Imo I'd be more likely to blame the fruiting chamber, or the grower for a small pinset. Ime casings are more lenient. From my personal experience, I case everything now.

Aerial myc is bad?  I have a culture that makes a lot of it and is super aggressive.  I thought it was doing good.

It normally means lack of FAE.

Ahh...  Well it's during colonization that my culture does that.

Could be rhizomorphic growth you're seeing.

Yeah, it's aerial and rhizo.  I'll post a pic once this tub gets more colonized.  One of my first clones and I'm really happy with it

I don't want to sound rude, but you can make a good sgfc for 20-30$. You can also probably make a mini mono using them too. Which is like $10. If you're talking about the bowl it's in, I'd just leave that for the kitchen. That's my recommendation.

A perfectionist would argue with that. But if you're happy that's great  .

Aerial mycelium doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I've seen some BEAUTIFUL stuff from aerial looking stuff, meaning it was just genetic. If you noticed Gyo didn't say it was always because of a lack of fae. Just that the guys pictures looked like they were lacking in both fae and misting Imo. Mycelium is different every time. It's part of what makes this hobby fun

Here's some shots of the culture I'm talking about.

The tub on the left is the culture.  It's pinning its third flush.  The other three sister cultures are just starting, in the middle of, or just finishing their second flushes.

These two tubs are the same culture.  Spawned to coir two days ago.

Kinda hard to tell from the images but the rhizo myc really likes to shoot straight up into the air.  I'm sure in a few days that top will be covered in aerial looking rhizomorphic growth.  I'll post some more pics once it's more colonized.  Probably post some pics of the grain jars once they colonize too.

The difference between pe and ordinary cubes is patience. It takes longer for them to pin and longer for them to mature which may be problematic for a noob who does not have an eye yet for ideal fruiting conditions. This in turn may make a noob uneasy and lose patience in which the noob will keep fuckng with conditions even though there is no need to. Bottom line, dark, be patient and allow the organism to propagate when it's ready.

I agree with dark. Since more care is needed for PE I'm going to wait til I've run a few cased monos before I undertake PE. Honestly just because I don't want to waste any spores. I know they are plentiful, but every single one has its own potential and characteristics- so perhaps me flubbing a grow and an amazing unique mutation died there and is no longer seen in nature- the weight of the world ladies and gentlemen is what I feel when cultivating, and I love them so much I can't bear the thought of loosing them.
