Festival Talk * 1
    #22023619 - 07/31/15 09:17 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Who likes music festivals?
I figured id make a general discussion thread about them because theres so much tov talk about and i love sharing stories.

What fests have you been to?
What kind of music?
Drug experiences?
Stories?
Tips for others?
Concerns about the scene?

Yeah I ben to some fests that's for sure. I like music festivals better than shows because I can spend some of my time as messed up as I wanna be, but have other times that are a little more lucid. Nice to be able to mix it up.

Shade, warm shelter, water, and easily prepared healthy food are key.

I've been to a few but I don't like festivals that much compared
to nightclub venues. I recently went to Hakkasan in Vegas and it was the greatest thing ever.. 10x better then some shit show festival like UMF or Tomorrowland. EDC looks fun af though and I'm boing next year. Other than that I prefer a B2B set at Echostage, 930 Club, or Hakkasan any day over a over hyped shit festival like Thank You Fest where the a good portion are freshman kids or meat heads and bimbos

I'm going to Moonrise Festival next Saturday too, I'm only going because I know the guys who own Club Glow the hosts of the event and Audien and Porter Robinson are going to be there.

You really just called Tomorrowland a shitshow but only to say next that EDC looks fun. Those are like the same thing dude. Tons of young kids going to the scene to do drugs and rage hard. Pretty sure people die like every year at EDC.

IMO, the EDM scene ruins the music. Lot of good artists out there doing electronic music but it's ruined by the young kids with glow sticks. The Jam Band scene is 10x better than it has been the last several years because EDM has sucked up all the Kandy Kids and now you have 90% of the people at Jam Band shows that are just all about the music.

I love festivals.

The best ones ive seen were Where Life Begins (the best), Earthdance NW, Kaliediscope, Human Nature (the first one) and What The Festival.

Also, been to a couple small outdoor rogue raves, which aare just as  awesome as festivals.

They all played EDM music, of all genres. Human Nature 1 had live  bands, hip hop, which was really cool. Kaliediscope also had a variety of music, including Nas and even some Underground.

Sadly, the festival scene is slowly dying off. Only a few have survived. Its a dying species sadly.

So many illegal festivals have gone down (started with Where Life Begins, which got shut down by cops). The fuckin cops are always ruining these awesome festivals cause of non-permitted events.

but it was great while it lasted.

As for dr00gz, back in 2009 for Where Life Begins, i  never seeen so much acid in my life! People were giving it to me *for free*. Insane.

That was the best festivals. 7 mini stages, all with unique music playin 24 hours for about 3 days. now thats a festival!

Over the years, the festivals ive seen are getting worst. Just sloppy and unprepared. Unprofessional compared to how it was.

the outdoor raves had very unique music.  Cutting-edge hybrid fusion genres of music ive never heard of (and never will hear again). It was special. Love those brand-new experimental genres. The best.

sad to see them disappear, especially with NWTenko.org being taken down as well.

At least there are still a couple left.

Sure do miss the rogue outdoor raves. Damn cops ruined it for us over here....

Its not a true festival unless you're camping. I love being able to walk back to my camp spun out at 2-3am, opening up the cooler and grabbing a bag of wine and just wandering around all the campsites meeting people and exchanging stories. Shit gets weird late night in the campgrounds at fests and you overhear some of the funniest shit.

Ive been to a couple fests that you cant camp at and it just sucks paying for a hotel room and getting back there is a pain in the arse.

yeah I agree it's not really a legit fest if you can't camp. Fuck yeah fun late night weirdness. Wandering around spun as fuck trying to find camp and coming upon random strangers in similar states.

Met a 15 year old kid at Counterpoint who told his parents he went camping lmfao.
He tried lsd mdma and shrooms for the first time that weekend. Kid was camping by himself and loving life telling us about all his crazy revelations through the weekend. I gave him a beer and some advice and sent him on his way

"Remember when we were supposed to leave friday night?" (On Sunday 3am)

oh word i musta got mixed up

lately Pretty Lights is being a bitch about his recent break up with his gf and every show hes just been rocked at. his set at bisco this year was some of the most embrassing shit ive ever seen. i love PL but no joke its one of the worst sets ive ever seen in my life, like a top 3

he fucked up time and time again and was def K rocked. mumbling fucking gibberish into the mic and at one point he just spaced the fuck out and no music was being played, house lights were on, and hes just sitting there staring off into space. then he like snapped outta it and started playing music again like nothing happened

it was pathetic. set had zero flow and hed like start to do ok with segments then hed fucked up royally again. shit was so bad

watching that set was sad. straight up

I feel like he does opiates, in all his interviews he seems so dopey but it could be K.
Damn thats sad,  at Bonnaroo this year he disappointed loads of people because there was supposed to be a PL sunrise set after his superjam but it never happened. The cherub dj ended up filling in. Might be a related issue.

haha funny K story. some truly great festival shenanigans. this happened at bisco a couple weeks ago

i saw this kid it was on saturday around the time we had to stay under the tent cuz of weather, it was raining super hard and tornado warnings. this kid and a couple of his friends were like pretty soberish (like not sober but very in control) but on a dime he could act like he was super fucked up on K. so he started pranking people and he stood in the area in the middle of the tent where all people walk thru and waited for busy times to go out there and look spun the fuck out and get super weird looks from people. then his friend came out and it was like a tag team prank. he got a ton of laughs. dude had dedication too, he was like drooling really badly too just to make it that much funnier. like 6 inches of drool hanging outta his mouth as people walk right by him...that shit was hilarious

I love them.
My tip is to go to your local small/mid sized fests before you go balls deep and try to hit an Electric Forest or something of the like, this way you'll be prepared.

I usually bring drugs rather than buying them but don't forget most things can be bartered for if needed.

I always stock up on water. protein bars and apples are good easy eats as well. Even if you only ate those two things for the duration of the festival, you'd probably feel alright.

i like the random intermingling that goes on at fests. people showing up at your campsite and staying and sharing stories, the spunions that are always roaming around, random people shouting at each other, etc. it's like mildly controlled chaos.

been to a bunch of fests.. counterpoint twice, blackwater, bear creek, aura 2 or 3 times, purple hatters, wanee, earthdance.

ive seen lots of different types of music. i really like widespread panic's sets and galactic. i've seen stevie wunder tributes by kung fu,  zoogma, sts9, shpongle, ott, papadosio, griz, rebelution, jrad. tons of good music out there.

tips
bring comforters from beds when you camp, as well as a sleeping bag. makes the ground more comfy to lay on and keeps you warm when it gets super duper cold, and you can wrap yourself up and walk around with them.

don't skimp out on food supplies, come prepared. bread, hot dogs, peanut butter and jelly, and juice to drink. water is clutch as well and i always bring a couple cases of water but they usually run out, its a communal item.

bring your bathing suits, towels, and shoes that were meant to get wet if you have them or sandals. it rains a lot for some reason at most fests i go to.

flashlights and lanterns for when it gets dark, duh.

and test kits... don't get burned like i have countless times. ask them if they could test it for you, dont listen to anything they've said if you don't know them. always test it. if they wont give you a tiny piece or whatever to test, don't pick up. be safe!

i have too many stories to tell... lol i could write a frickin' novel man.

i like the random intermingling that goes on at fests. people showing up at your campsite and staying and sharing stories, the spunions that are always roaming around, random people shouting at each other, etc. it's like mildly controlled chaos.

my first fest ever was camp bisco. i jumped off the deep end (thats just like my personality tho)

big fests and small fests have their pros and cons. both are cool in my book

I'm definitely heading down to Hulaween. Suwanee is the only festival grounds ive been to and i think i'd die happy if that were the only one (not that i'm not dying to hit up some others!!)

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/21843271

Only thing about Suwanee is that you have to be extremely careful as its just ridden with undercovers it seems.

At Bear Creek 2013, a group of us Shroomerites were just chillin under our pop up pavillion late at night.
Some random dude, pretty clean cut, just walks up on us yelling "Woah, guys! Watch out for cops theyre everywhere man! Theyre like in the woods with night vision goggles! I just saw them get this guy JUST FOR WEED!!"

We just said oh yeah that sucks... and he immediately chilled out and went on to say "Oh, by the way, do you guys have some sass"?
And we all were just immediately getting bad vibes from this guy and told him we had nothing. I think most of us were tripping on SOMETHING and were currently testing some mdma on the ground in the middle of all of us.

He wouldn't let up and was just asking for other stuff and we just kept saying nah dude, we dont have anything.
One of our buddies didnt quite understand what was going on at the time and kept saying- while the chemical was changing color to indicate it was legit- "Oh, nice i think we got something here" And we had to hush him a couple times with "the eye" until he finally got it

Anyway, the dude finally broke character and went "Come on, i know you guys got SOMETHIN in your little jars or something"
We had to be a little harsh at this point and tell him to fuck off basically, and he stormed off cussing under his breath.

Sorry for the long story, but i'll always remember that one! Was definitely on high alert, he was standing right behind me and i could just FEEL him. ugh.

Someone else who was there should chime in if im forgetting something

I'll agree with the notion that it's not a festival if you're not camping. I went to lolla three years in a row and then bonnaroo. Bonnaroo was crazy, my first acid trip. Later that night someone offered me weed which turned out to be not weed. I then freaked the fuck out and the test of the weekend was ruined.

Besides that it's FULL if people fucked up on drugs..it's like a zombie apocalypse at some parts of the night. Hoards of people just walking in a daze lol

I love the comparison to a zombie apocalypse. Like right after the last show and everyones just spilling out everywhere. That with the strange lighting totally makes it feel like that sort of thing

Yeah that freaked me out a lot. I noticed after radiohead I was just wandering with a group of people that I didn't know at all. None of us were speaking, none of us knew each other. Just one dazed mob haha

so at my first aura, which was aura 3 out in st cloud, we were walking around past the tents and there was the led just laying in the middle of the path way, so i went to go pick it up. when i did, it jumped back towards the tents a little bit and i realized that it was attatched to a string and there were some people sitting in the dark fishing for spunions lol

with all the good awesome happy people you find at festivals, there are people who are negative for whatever reason... some people might not remember you from when they were spun out, even though you basically camped next to them and spent an extended period of time with them... and give you weird looks when you say whats up or ask for a hug or whatever. i noticed that happens a lot.

I'm of the opinion that K is actually the ideal festival drug (aside from the staples of pot and alc). It's just so fun to wander around, bumping small amounts of k when it starts to wane.

I've never done or been offered K at a festival, but I guess it's because I don't go to EDM oriented ones?

even jam fests have K. there's been tons of it honestly going around the past couple of years. this year seems no different. we camped next to some people from NJ whose main goal was to push K. i doubt they saw any music, they were just bickering with each other the whole time.

Weird because that's most of the festivals I go to. I guess I'm not a big social butterfly though. I usually come with my own stash of things I like and share. Maybe it's not as much of a West Coast thing then.

Just came back from a shitty festival this afternoon & so many people were doing K. These kids will do anything to get fucked up. Just watching these people made me say "wow" to myself. They all seemed like a bunch of lost causes. In the past I was somewhat interested in trying K if the opportunity arose but after seeing so many losers make a complete & utter ass out of themselves I've changed my mind.

doing stuff is one thing. it's another to come across people that at first seem cool, but come to find out they are not there to make friends or see music. just there to make money off of you.

i think i would like the burner scene more, as i've had a little taste from meeting some burners at the earthdance festival i went to. they are much more quick to help someone out and kind of just give things away.

met one dude that was near the food vendors and it was starting to rain pretty hard out. he gave us this candle and said "don't let it go out! make sure you make it to the gate without it going out!" or something like that, it was funny to us at the time. later on, our friend got his jeep stuck in the mud and he helped us out by giving us some rope for me to yank him out of the mud. real friendly guy.

Yep, it's just one big money making scheme. $5 breakfast sandwiches, $10 cheeseburgers, $3 cups of coffee. Talk about highway robbery... The food is more expensive than sit down places for god sake. I've given enough festivals a chance (in my region of the country) and they are all the same. This way just my last summer of festivals, I've thrown my hat in the ring.

Honestly, I've never been to rainbow gathering. By no means am I saying that all festivals out there are shit but I genuinely think that a lot are just ways for the organizers to squeeze as much money as they possibly can out of people that go.

Maybe just our enthusiasm bubble has popped? I think the more times you go, the more you start to see the ugly side of it all. I would say that from an attendance and growth point of view, the festival bubble has not popped. At least not here on the West Coast. Look at EDC, Coachella, BM, etc. They are all doing just fine.

I'm thinking about going to Portugal for Boom Fest next year. Sounds kinda cool and I've never been to Europe.

i mean to an extent youre totally right

but at the same time its undeniable, festivals are bigger than theyve ever been, so many new random ass fests are popping up nowadays too and like they do it cuz its hot and possibly an easy cash grab...so many of these fests just dont care about the integrity of the fest, its just money

fests that ive been to for the last 5 years have changed drastically

I hate to break it to you, but I think the majority of big fests have been about the money from the getco. That's why I plug small/mid fests so often, there's a much better family vibe there - always has been.

There are always going to be exceptions in both cases. For instance burning man has held its integrity very well from what I have gathered. And I'm sure there's small fests with bad vibes / money hungry owners.

I love festivals. This will be the first year in a long time that I haven't been to one because I'm saving money to move. I don't think festivals are that expensive. You can bring in pretty much whatever you want so you don't have to buy their food or drinks. I even sneak my own liquor into the concert areas. The only things I really pay for is admission and a poster.  Sometimes I'll get some pizza if I feel like my food is spoiled or something.

The festival season bubble definitely hasn't popped yet. This year we had Fare Thee Well, Magnaball, Lockn, and a bunch of other good fests.

Every person that I talked to & saw on K at the festival I just came back from looked & acted like they were autistic. It was just weird to see someone in that state. Obviously they didn't give a shit & I shouldn't have either but it just got to me for some reason. It made me think to myself that I can't let my drug use go any farther than what it is now.

I did a shitload of acid mushrooms and K at a fest last year wandered around all night completely spun out then eventually passed out on a chair in some random tent

I remember waking up with the most peculiar amnesia thinking "How the fuck did I get here?"

i got to meet my niece at a festival this year, i am pretty stoked about that. i'll have to disagree there, unless the person with said kids or dogs is too irresponsible to keep after them and care. then they should probably not have dogs or kids in the firstplace.

Yeah they can be that's for sure, but I was mainly addressing the gripe that people have about festivals being all about profit. It's not exactly a festival, but has a similar vibe.

i'm going to agree with this. especially the ones that are run by larger corporate organizers, they just don't care about the well being of the patrons attending... have a look at what happened with bunk police and Dance Safe.

it's all baout not getting sued, not actual harm reduction.

It's great stuff. I love doing some breakfast K....small bumps in the morning/early afternoon to get me smoothed out & ready for the day. Then I hold off until late night, after the music. Just chilling with my crew at the camp site, doing K bumps, drinking a couple beers, raging some tunes. Smoothes everything out, leads to hysterical laughter, washes away the aches. (As I get older I feel all the dancing & running around I did earlier) Then as the sun rises, and it's time to lay down for a couple hours do a solid line & slip into the hole for a bit..... Excellent stuff. It's my MO anymore for multi-day runs & festivals these days. I love that dissociative space.

Sadly, the festival scene is slowly dying off. Only a few have survived. Its a dying species sadly....

Noo way man :smirk:....From what I've experienced and have seen, it's the absolute contrary, I think there's some real special things blossoming and happening about the west coast festival "scene"...and the global festival scene as far as that goes (Boom, Ozora, Afrika Burn, Envision, even Israel has their own "Burning Man" event now called "Mid-Burn", etc etc....).

Quite a handful of new festivals/gatherings have popped up on the west coast over the years, and lots of new festivals/communities/gatherings are being birthed from burning man.

I'm not talking about massive commercialized & corporate sponsored festivals that have banners and adds everywhere that are mostly just looking to profit from putting on a festival...but relatively smaller things (1,000 to 10,000 heads) that are more from  "grassroots" crews of people and don't intend on turning a real profit. Even though they're relatively smaller they still have solid top notch production and line ups. Tight nit vibes, more of a community feel (I always see familiar faces at all the festivals & things I go to, same circle/family of folks).

A few off the top of my head in my area alone....

Symbiosis Gathering

Raindance

Beloved

Stilldream

Emissions

Lunar Burn

Enchanted Forest

Lucidity

Serenity gathering

The Bounce

Desert Hearts

...all really great festivals, and there's lots more of em' out here.

(BTW....LC, I do intend on replying to your PM later this evening )

I just think for the safety of everybody-including the children & dogs, that people should leave those two at home. Not everyone's dog is out of control but you never know how a usually well mannered dog might react when it sees another dog. Just last night, these two groups of people were letting their dogs sniff the other dog's butt & what not and out of nowhere the smaller of the two dogs went from 0 to 100 in a second on the bigger dog. It jumped on top of it's back & bit down on it's neck as if it was trying to kill the other dog. (Think of how a lion or tiger would kill it's prey.) Then when the smaller dog couldn't hold it's grip any longer on the bigger dog's neck, they started running around, the smaller dog in pursuit of the bigger dog. Keep in mind, there were atleast 50 people or so in the middle of this whole encounter between the two dogs. Either one of those two dogs, while they were chasing after eachother, could've got distracted or confused & set their eyes on a new target-such as someone simply standing around waiting in line for food or whatever. Both dogs literally passed right by me-within a half foot or so, at full speed. I would not have hesitated to do whatever I had to in order to get a dog off of me, even if it meant killing their dog.

During this whole ordeal both groups of people (the owners of these two dogs) were screaming frantically & it was obvious they had no idea what to do. The only reason these two dogs didn't wind up killing eachother is because a few people ran over & scooped up the big dog & hid him behind a trailer.

Then right after these dumb assholes were petting their dog & saying good boy, good boy... Like shit, are these people retarded?

One time, a couple years back, I was sitting at my campsite with a kid that I used to go to festivals with, I was tripping on mushrooms, he was doing molly & whatever else... I saw our neighbor give her two children (I assume her children) a small brief case that had a bunch of cheap random knickknacks & rocks-mostly rocks. & instructed them to walk around the camp grounds to try sell the items... like little drug dealers. Or I should say, soon-to-be drug dealers. It was pretty obvious to me that this lady was using her kids to make her own money. These little kids couldn't have been any older than maybe 4 or 5 years old & they were roaming around a few acres or so totally by themselves, the same exact place where a couple thousand people or so are doing drugs of all kinds & acting crazy... They came up to me while they were making their rounds and asked me to buy a small rock that was probably found on the ground for like $3 or $5... I told them no thanks. Pffft... Like I'm going to give them $5 so they can then go back and give all that money they made selling rocks & other junk, to their parents. Sorry but even if they are kids, I'm not giving away my money. Later that day they switched to selling bags of ice... One day those little kids are probably going to go from selling rocks & random knickknacks to selling bags of weed to selling molly & whatever else. Seeing that shit really fucked me up & it was all I could think about for the rest of the trip. It made me think that they didn't have a chance to be able to think for themselves because they were being put into that environment at such a young age. This lady was totally exploiting her children for her own monetary gain.

I don't agree with that

I've seen lots of kids and dogs at the fests I've gone to and they have a fun time too

haha once some wookette had her dog out and he had a long leash and out at mainstage there were a ton of empty water bottles and this dog was having the time of his life chasing down water bottles and destroying them...i thought it was really funny

The dogs and kids are OK as long as the parents are responsible, but you really gotta watch both of them at that kind of event as you never know what they might pick up off the ground and put in their mouth.

depends on the fest with kids

a small chill fest is alright but at a bigger fest def just be an adult and get a babysitter, why would u wanr a kid at a festival? its just kinda fucked up cuz itd be exposed to so much shit

kids who grow up on lot dont really quite grasp reality sometimes

True, a lot of vsrious festivals are popping  up.

I enjoyed the smaller, "underground"  festivals. Much better time for me.

In my experience, the smaller, intimate festivals in Oregon are now scarce.  Maybe  i just dont know where  the advertize  anymore, who knows

But cali and Washington definitely have more goingg on. Lots of flyers i saw at H.N. for Wash and CA for this year.

And  loooking forward to that PM, its been itching me all week

Anybody know of good festivals on the East Coast; of the sort that openmind and modest were discussing? Missed lolla but I made Bonnaroo this year. I guess I'm asking about maybe like a lil smaller events. Bonnaroo felt sort of impersonal to me. I had a blast but all in all I feel it was wayy too expensive for the experience. Probably would have had a better time had I went with ppl I felt closer with/had more similar interests with.

It's rather difficult to explain

I like to go hard with it and rail like 4 big lines one after the other

When you do it that way it really fucks you up like sort of a drunken trippy feeling if I had to put it in simple terms but it's so much more complex than that, it sort of puts you in a state of non-reality, time slows down to a crawl and your perceptions become all weird and stretched out, my nose ends up feeling like it's paper thin and I sort of float around like a ghost for a half hour not really feeling my body all too much

Then once the peak wears off you feel pretty chill and get a nice afterglow for a couple hours

That's the best I can explain it you won't really understand until you try it but it's weird stuff

It doesn't last for hours like an acid trip..and its much different.still intense.ime its like everything's melting or morphing into/out of/around itself and your mind is just..lucidly rolling with and into it. Reminds me of those old school screen savers where the colors are melting into/out of itself. I'd prefer an acid trip or shrooms(but maybe a line of k on the comedown).

the thing that really pissed me off about moonrise last year was the sound. it was weak as fuck, like embarassingly bad

that venue is basically in a residential neighborhood, to me its not an issue of shitty speakers, its an issue of sound ordinances since its right next to peoples houses. i doubt itll get any better, which sucks

shitty speakers at a festival really defeats the purpose

Sucks REALLY bad about the sound. Next to houses? Does that festival suck basically? Is there camping n shit? Is it far enough from the houses to still feel like you can still do you and enjoy yourself? I know I could look this up. Just tell me.

Ehhh I didn't think it was bad, when your rolling everything sounds blissful. If you are into Bassnectar, Above and Beyond, Audien, Porter Robinson, and the whole line up you'll have fun. It's was pretty fun last year. Admission is $90 but a 9 hour drive won't be worth it. Maybe if this was EDC or UMF but Moonrise is no EDC or UMF. It's hosted by the local EDM concert/event coordinator Club Glow who have huge and high quality production values at Echostage and Ultrabar but they cohost it with Steez Promo who fucking suck and basically trolled everyone 3 years ago when they fucked up big time and weren't able to validate the permit for the location of the first moonrise festival.

last year on day 1 i thought the fest was a total joke, i was legitamtely pissed off i wasted my money there, everything felt so shitty, the speaker thing realllllly got to me too...i personally thought the crowd was weak as fuck, too many kandi kids and ratchet hoes

i was sitting there being like holy fuck, how is bassnectar supposed to play here tomorrow with like no bass? wtf

day 2 was a lot better, but just bc the lineup was better, its not like they turned up the volume...id guess they arent gonna turn it up this year either

and yeah no camping, its an 11am-11pm festival in the middle of baltimore...its straight up in the hood too lol

the lineup is pretty sweet tho, lots of shit for bassheads

Omg im into that line up. Sucks about the crowd too but once I'm in my zone I don't really care too much. Just kinda vibe and enjoy myself and move away from anyone who's disturbing to me or acting stupid. Sucks it's not overnight. I would NOT be about driving to and getting a hotel room after spun as fuck. And alone at that.

That drive wouldn't be too bad. And the show sounds majorly worth it. I need a second chance to see him..I was disappointed at Bonnaroo over the Bassnectar show. Not him he was great. But the kids were going so nuts and it was so overcrowded at that particular stage(it was one of the smaller stages I do believe)(which was a terrible mistake having him play at that one bc of the over crowding--everybody was going to wanna see that)and I couldn't find a good spot to enjoy him. He played so many songs that i had traveled 5 hours to see live--he was a major reason I went..so I was completely frustrated about that situation.
It would just be a show for the one night I'm guessing?

yeah roo is stright up just too big, bassnectar is HUGE in the festival scene and any of his sets throughout the summer will be one of the largest crowds of each fest, people just go nuts for him (for good reason)

roo is huge and you gotta expect a huge crowd for it, its one of the many reasons id never go to that fest

but yeah its just the show on that halloween which is a saturday, as of now its at least me and my one homie but i wont be surpised if our idea gets the rest of our crew to go too...were gonna get there day of and leave the next day

bassnectar shows are way better, 2.5 hour sets at least, and its all about him, no sound bleed...halloween is a night when hes gonna go hard as fuck, specially since hes not touring this year

I didn't know. It was my first big fest. And it was rather close so I wanted to go and experience. Just out of a divorce a couple years back so im new to a lot of things I'd not been allowed to do in a long time. Like being myself. But anyway. I was super disappointed w the crowd overall. I met some great ppl but still. Yeah. And it was terribly expensive.

Damn that sucks. Don't let that ruin your experience for all festivals though. I prefer the smaller ones, with just a few thousand people or so. Once the festivals get too big they go to shit pretty quickly.

If you are in KY, checkout http://www.terrapinhillfarm.com/.

Tons of old (and new) heads go here. It's more of a hippy jam band place, not really EDM (just FYI).

Oh dude. Thank you. That's right down the road from me. Def would like to make that harvest fest if I can find some ppl to go n camp w me. Would be cool to meet some ppl from around here. I wonder if I would have a nice time if I just went by myself. Do you know much about it? And it keeps mentioning 'fun for the whole family' and kids and stuff. Is that an indication of the atmosphere?

There is one festival I'm thinking of going to near me, except the line up is really weak, like 90% of it doesn't even sound like EDM, they did some kind of mixing of genres like trying to include some kind of rap etc, I looked a lot of the bands up and it's pretty disappointing. I'd probably only wanna go for Deadmau5.

it used to be, they put it in northeast PA this year

we did get a pretty crazy storm, it was pouring out and some lighting/thunder...no tornado but it was a legit warning

after the rain stopped we got a double rainbow that was pretty sick, last time i saw a double rainbow was night 2 of bassnectar at red rocks 2014...double rainbows = monster bassnectar sets

I'm aware of Bassnectar but he's on a different day than Deadmau5, and I'd probably only go on Sunday(if I do).
I really can't listen to hippity hop, no idea why they thought it was a grand idea to mix genres like that especially in Wisconsin of all places, the whitest place in America.
I've been to this place earlier in the year for the Northern Invasion Festival that had a bunch of metal bands, yeah I know what you're talking about with the sound bleed it was noticeable when two bands were playing.
As for the security thing, it was a little more uptight than I was used to, had to empty my pockets and go through a metal detector.
Then later my buddy and I wanted to smoke a bowl and they wouldn't let us or other people leave to our cars because we didn't have V.I.P. bracelets, then later we walked around and found another exit and they let us leave,
I was relieved because I left acid in the car thinking I'd leave it and come back for it after a couple bands played, my day was nearly ruined.
Sorry if that was a long reply.

Some fests are fun. I prefer smaller affairs since I don't like being around super large concentrations of people. Went to Photosynthesis in Washington last year with Twighead and Propensity and wound up doing crazy amounts of ketamine, mxe, mushrooms, and acid in a Freemason rainforest campground. Was pretty awesome all around. As far as where I live in the Midwest goes though, I've been to Shoefest in the past and enjoyed it, but the only fests I'm really interested in that are in the region are Infrasound and Resonance. Attended my first Infrasound back in May and it was unquestionably the best musical experience I've ever had in my 20 years of life (Ozric Tentacles playing a mindblowingly sick set to a crowd of 50-60 people while I'm on 6-7 hits of acid :awecid:) so I'll definitely be returning for the Infrasound Equinox event in September if any shroomerites are going to that.

Indeed, it often seems to me that of all the good things in the world, the only ones humanity can claim for itself are stories and music; the rest, mercy, beauty, sleep, clean water and hot food (as the Ascian would have said) are all the work of the Increate. Thus, stories are small things indeed in the scheme of the universe, but it is hard not to love best what is our own—hard for me, at least."

From my admittedly limited festival experience, I have to say that so far fests that attract higher quantities of Burners are almost always better across the board than the fests that don't (:imo:). Something to look out for
