I was thrilled when I saw the cover of Fungi. I had just found This:
 the Toothed Reishi
I've been coresponding with Mr. Blanchette and he was excited to see it! Found along the Altamaha in southeast GA. Lots of wild pigs in that area...

Very cool, do you know what trees it was near? And would you be willing to send me a sample to try to clone?
Dr. Blanchette is actually who I have sent my Ganoderma cultures to for DNA sequencing.

It was on the base of a dead Live Oak. I didnt realize it's rarity until the issue came... once again kicking opportunity down the river.

Sorry, man. I've been back twice... which is saying something, as it is 4 miles in muggy & hot as hewl south GA. The woods have boar eeeeeverywhere too, which is not so much fun. G. curtsii is as good a guess as any. I call everything that looks like it "something in the G. lucidum complex." The area will be underwater soon I'm thankful I at least took a quick photo.
I'll probably go back to that tree for the rest of my life. I'll let you know.

I was told it is an "extremely rare growth," so try and find it! Flooding has something to do with the growth.

Perhaps submersion is a good way to achieve this form.

yes, mine was along a frequent flood area. The sample from the 1925 expedition was supposedly from a flooded area as well (Harvard bought it from a shaman, not found). You can see in my photo it had been pretty covered in sand. I think burying it has something to do with it. ...really wish I had it...

I'm sorry, man. I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at here... & it looks far from the Ganoderma lucidum complex.... but forreal thank you for sharing!
I found some more re-growth G. lucidum in coastal, southeastern GA. Not so much a similar habitat as the first, and not in a frequently flooded area.

By the looks of the pine needles you found Ganoderma meredithae. That is really cool, did you send those pictures to Dr. Blanchette?

Cool, Oak would be G.curtisii then, G.meredithae and G.curtisii look pretty much exactly the same, there are som many mixed forests in the region that I wouldn't be surprised if G.meredithae wasn't actually just G.curtisii hopping species to pine. Quote:
