what is this??? golden droplets inside the jar!
    #22023291 - 07/31/15 07:14 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

There are three golden droplets (looks like the omega-3 golden gel tablets) inside the jar on the surface.
my camera doesnt capture it!

Can't be positive without any pictures but sounds like metabolites to me.

I'm guessing metabolites.

What are your colonizing temps? and what % is the jar colonized?

I'm have no background in biology, but I believe metabolites are enzymes secreted by mycilium to help fight against competitors, and also to help break down substrates before being consumed by the mycilium itself.  I think (tho may be wrong) that these enzymes help 'predigest' there chosen substrate and there are many different types that can be produced for various reasons. (whether food, competitor organisms, or environmental conditions.)

In any case, generally if i see any kind of metabolite production with cubes I start paying attention, especially for bacterial competitors.

(if anyone has any better info on this, please correct me.  I did a google search on it and only got a bunch of shroomery results)

Same here.  I typically see metabolites in my spawn jars after full colonization or close to it.  When I do see them, I usually don't G2G to any more jars. I will just spawn to a substrate and hope to get 1-2 healthy flushes.

I often see the metabolites forming on the surface of the substrate before introducing fruiting conditions if i spawned from jars that contained metabolites.

More than likely metabs, like stated above it could be something wrong. I've also seen jars throw off metabs from big temp swings and also if you leave a jar colonized for a long time

It could be over colonization.
there is like 3 or4 seeds that didnt seem to colonize.

Mycelium does not urinate, does not have a bladder, and there is no such thing as myc piss.  Why this horrible disinformation persists after we've known for over 50 years that these liquids are antibiotic and released in response to bacteria is beyond comprehension.
Next time you get sick, ask the doctor for a myc piss shot instead of antibiotics and see him look at you like you just bumped your head or fell off a turnip truck.
If your grains are infected, there will be metabolites.  If you've colonized at above normal room temperature, bacteria has been stimulated and thus the metabolites.

It's not even a waste product, and people who call it piss are ignorant.  The liquid is excreted to help break down the substrate, and in a different formulation is produced to fight contaminant molds and bacteria.  These are the products antibiotics are made of.

Mycelium does not urinate, not is it infused with bacteria.  Metabolites are anti-bacterial in fact.  Mix it with water and use it on your plants.  It's an excellent fertilizer.

Also remember the pH will naturally swing towards acidic as the mycelium secretes enzymes to break down the substrate.  Use gypsum to help prevent it from going too low.

Gypsum or lime for pH...
Lime helps buffer swings in pH, how does gypsum affect it?

Not sure how this plays into this specific thread but to answer your question…

Lime raises ph drastically.. gypsum is the buffer.  Lime adjusts ph immediately (when coming in contact with water) and gypsum does it over long periods of time and will never raise the ph above like 8 even if you use a ton of it.  You need small amounts of lime (calcium hydroxide) compared to gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate), at least when used in casing mixes (tsp of lime compared to a Tblsp of gypsum)

Pooling of the enzymes or whatever you want to call it is one thing, but if you notice it's all kind of defying gravity and nothing but tiny amber droplets that could be a sign of wet bubble or dry bubble or some other bad joojoo.
