Anyone here ever actually died in a dream?
    #22022876 - 07/31/15 01:57 AM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I never have, despite the odds against me. I have nightmares a lot, I would say in a good 80% of my dreams I'm in immediate danger of being killed. It is still yet to happen. Most of the time I always manage to survive even facing near certain death. On the few occasions where I simply wouldn't I wake up before the death could occur.

If you have died in a dream, what was it like? Did everything just go black? Did you become a ghost? Did it just take on a narrative perspective as if you weren't really there anymore but could still just watch life progress on without you?

I once had a dream where my family and I we're driving away from something. Next thing I know I feel my life coming to an end. I am then looking down on the Earth and watching nukes go off all over the planet. I felt death every time one went off.

I know there is more but it is the only one that comes to mind.

When i was young, around 10, i watched Jurrasic Park. That movie scared the bejesus out of me!

Shortly after seeing it, i had a dream where i was in the Jurrasic period and i was running for my life from a full grown T-Rex.

The T-Rex was too fast and i ended up getting eaten. I immediately woke up after "dying" in the T-Rexs mouth. I was sweating and panting. Scary stuff.

Thats the only time i remember "dying" in a dream.

Ive died in a dream a few times. One that I can remember is I was in a public restroom and someone came in and shot me in the head. I floated slowly away from my body still in the presence of the restroom and all. All the dreams where I died were similar experiences of floating away from the scene

Just curious. Had you by any chance watched Enter the Void prior to that dream?

I can't remember but I think I saw that movie after I had that dream, because I remember feeling that it was an odd coincidence that we were both shot in a bathroom and had the same floating away experience (if thats what that was supposd to signify in the movie)

it wasn't really enjoyable just kind of "is what it is" type of thing. and I remember still having my ego's thoughts as I floated away. Like I was still me just not in my body anymore.

i guess i cant really say i died in the dream, but more like i skipped death and went straight to the light, or rather i was taken to the place of no return, passed the bardo, into the abyss, and back out the other side.. it was by far the craziest dream i had ever had..

when i woke up i didnt know where i was, or who i was, everything was alien to me,

u know when u're dreaming and then something suddenly pops out and scares u and u wake up?, or the dream is so bad that u force urself to wake up?..

well i didnt do it that time..

i went ALLLLL the fucking way..

That seems to be common. I fell off a few cliffs a and died in dreams, I was shot in a couple too.  I think I was squashed by something once also. Every time it was a weird slow fade to black then I woke up.  Hasn't happened in awhile O'.

I used to have dreams where I died all the time as a teenager. I would either wake up, or the dream would start a completely different storyline. Luckily, my dreams are nice these days.

These days, the most interesting thing that happens in my dreams is when I trip in my dreams. I'm always finding stores that sell mushrooms, or a guy selling acid, or a field so full of mushrooms that you can't walk, and the mushrooms grow as high and as big as people. Quite frequently, I fill my pockets with drugs in these dreams and then try to keep other people from finding out that I have them.

Worst dream I evever had was when I was dealing with withdrawal, which made me think I was literally going insane I heard voices for weeks and everytime I'd close my eyes I would see the people I cared about the most dying in groosome ways it was terrible and I haven't been the same since but better at least . Anyways the dream was extremely vivid and creepy, first thing I remember about it is spinning the cylinder on a revolver putting it to my head and pulling the trigger i heard the shot but nothing happened so i did it like 4 more times  but still nothing then I turned and looked at the wall and it was covered in blood and chunks of brain, then I wok up freaking out.

The one dream that comes to mind has pretty much haunted me since.

I shot myself in the head, but I couldn't die. Like you, things would fade to black, but I'd come back. So I did it again, and again, and again. Each time I stuck the gun in my mouth and pulled the trigger.
When I finally woke up the roof of my mouth was stinging.

edit: I've also tripped in dreams, and it's always freaking awesome. Definitely more alice-in-wonderland esque than any real trip, though it does lack the profound feelings and revelations and just the mental aspect of tripping in general.

Lots of times, ill hopefully remember to post and elaborate in the morning as im tired atm.

But yeah the whole, you die in a dream you die in real life things is bullshit.

Also tripping in dreams as others have said is fucking awesome. The actual trips are better, but if you wanna see elephants and dragons and all that shit dare pronised you drugs would do, do them in dreams, cause it can actually happen.

How the fuck would anyone even know if that was the case, considering everyone who's supposedly died in a dream is dead, save for maybe the 1% who have "been revived" or whatthefuckever.

Total rubbish.

Being a lucid dream, I was aware I was dreaming.
I don't think that entail's always being able to control every aspect.

Yeah, my lucid dreams, save for a few(usually the ones I end up tripping in funnily enough) usually stop at being aware of the dream. I've ended up realizing I was dreaming, trying to fly, and only ended up jumping up and down repeatedly like an idiot and failing.

I once became conscious during a dream, manifested a gun and asked the closest dream character to kill me with it. Felt a release/boundaries dissolve and then was sucked into a new dream.. hard to explain those states

I'm no stranger to trying to explain dreams that not only defy the realm of physics but defy all logic and comprehension.

I'm truly fascinated by dreams (and for the record to everyone who has brought it up, no this wasn't a "if you die in your dreams you die in real life" type of thread) because of how incomprehensible they can be. So abstract and bizarre that words could never really describe them. Dreams are kind of like Salvia in that way. Can try your damnedest to put the experience into words, but it will never come close to a real description/explanation of what you experienced.

I've never died in a dream though, so was wondering what that was like. My thinking was that trying to comprehend that (short of just the death being the end of that particular dream and a new one starting fresh) would break our brains. Trying to compute something when we have no idea what it's really like.

It's a shame that stimulants aren't an option because of your heart. They're highly effective in certain doses. Not the healthiest way to lose weight, but when someone talks about their body as "torturous" it makes me consider it a decent option.

That's absolutely crazy insane.  At times I slip into the "what is happening right niw isn't true reality", when those times it is and some stupid things happen because I not think as real. Once, held bag of ethylone in hand while in shower and watched the two chunks sliwly melt with the water. Or, the next day, taking me cell phone into shower fully clothed. The darn shower turned into the far out reality where nothing was real, but in turn, it was. The idea of shooting self with gun like that blows my mind..

Death in dreams...  One of many, fade to white to awake in bed.

Considering the number of people who have died in their sleep there are countless people who died in a dream.

Unless you're talking about some bullshit where somebody died in a dream and woke up and they were OK, which is common.

The worst thing about corruption is that it works so well,

My head was severed in a guillotine. In a room/area of nothing but black.
As my head came off it rolled facing upward, I was still aware/conscious.
I could feel loss, regret, remorse, but most of all I felt alone and scared.
More like an (unfinished business) kind of feeling. Like it was too soon...

One of the only true lucid dreams I've had.

So being a lucid dream you knew it was a dream, had the power to control it, and still chose that fate for yourself in your dream?

Sometimes when i lucid dream, i still choose to see what the dream itself wants to show me. Feels like i learn more about my mind this way.

Like if I'm not aware I'm dreaming, I'm more likely to miss details. If i realize it mid dream, i take note of everything, and feel i learn more.

Another thing i heard is it's impossible to read in a dream. Anyone ever read in a dream? After my friend told me this i remembered reading in a couple, but it was total gibberish, or an alien language that is comparable to tripping and trying to read a foreign languages instruction manual.

I lucid dreamed for the first time in a long time the other morning. I woke up half asleep and shut my eyes and was clearly seeing geometric lines expanding, contracting, multiplying, swirling etc. then I opened my eyes and closed them again and like watched a visual scene kind of fade into my field of vision. I was totally conscious looking at my arms in front of me, and it had this psychedelic theme, it was just really flowy. Wish I could do that shit on command lol
