Smoking After Endoscopy?
    #22021320 - 07/30/15 06:20 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Hi, sorry, not really sure where to put this, but I'm just looking for some quick answers.

I just got my upper endoscopy done this morning at around 10am. It went fine, but I still have this mildly painful lump in my throat (seems to be on the right side only). I am just wondering if it's ok to smoke now? I smoke cigarettes and weed. I won't be smoking weed until tomorrow morning after work, I'm hoping my throat will be fine by then, but I would like to have a cigarette before I work at 10pm tonight.

So what's the deal? Is it bad if I smoke 12 hours after the procedure? I was a bit high and I forgot to ask the doctor about it. I'm just worried cause I have this lump/pain in my throat and I don't wanna make it worse. If anyone has experience with this, your answer would be much appreciated!

Thanks! Peace!

Well you say you have a painful lump in your throat

Logic would dictate that you shouldn't irritate it further

true, but it's really no that bad at all ... it's like the mildest sore throat I've ever had, and I can only feel it when I swallow.

I don't even know what it's from. When you get an endoscopy you get the option of getting this stuff sprayed in the back of your throat, and I thought thats what makes your throat sore, but I didn't get that stuff .. I think it could be just damaged skin from the cord of the scope, and from what I've read online the sore throat shouldn't be present for more than 2 days. I just don't wanna wait to 2 days to smoke ...

yeah, it's sore because you had a camera being shoved down your throat all morning.  the camera ain't thin either; i've had a few.

i'd smoke, drinking cold water immediately before and after your hit, including while you're holding it in.  but if it gets sore, know why

i had an endoscopy/biopsy a few years ago. i had the same weird lump in my throat and the doc told me that your throat just isnt used to having a tube jammed in it, even for just 20 minutes

i went home and smoked weed as usual. it was before i smoked tobacco so i dunno about that for sure, but honestly i wouldnt worry about it

It's well-documented that smoking delays wound healing and surgical recovery.  Whether or not your throat discomfort is a "wound" is up to you.

Smoking will make that irritation linger. You should plug your smokes

My last endoscopy I asked the specialist if I could have a bong load 5 minutes before and after the procedure they said it was fine. It was weird as shit mixing weed with Ketamine,I forgot what is was like but it was weird and not fun.

Anyway not sure about tobacco though. Probably not great.

I was 15 so no and they had me smoke outside but I LOVE THE DOCS at Loma Linda University the gastro specialists(what I need) all agree I should continue medical cannabis to the most of their legal capabilities. They tell me that the best medication for my condition is medical cannabis. I feel they really understand that mmj is such an effective substitute for a multitude of pills with potential deadly effects.

lol as if the specialists let you blaze before and after! And how do you know you got Ketamine? I don't know what I got but it was fucked. The procedure literally felt like it lasted 5 seconds to me. I don't even remember when I blacked out, I just remember coming out of it right as they were pulling it out. I was gagging hard but my body felt really far away so like I couldn't really feel the gagging that much .. you know? lol I was definitely tripping, I blacked out again for a bit after they got it out too.

Anyway, I smoked a cigarette at 10pm with a throat losange in my mouth. It seemed to help, but I could feel the pain getting slightly worse. Over the night as I was working it basically went away. I just had another smoke an hour ago, and a sesh after. The cigarette wasn't too bad but I felt the bong making my throat a bit worse, even with a throat losange in, so I stopped, but I'm baked enough to sleep lol

I'm gonna wake up and it's gonna be completely gone!
