Gymnopilus sp? Missouri
    #22020931 - 07/30/15 05:07 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

Found these growing from buried rotting wood near the base of a living tree. It's been very hot and humid in St. Louis lately, with a lot of rain in the past weeks. The mushrooms were in a pretty shady area.

It been close to two hours since picking, and I've yet to notice any blue or green bruising.

Mushrooms growing:

1 hour after picking:

I'm thinking they could be gymnopilus sp of some sort. Any chance they're active?

Ah. Thank you. Are there any other possibilities? I'm not hoping for actives, I just want to make sure they couldn't possibly be toxic, as I might try to eat these. This site had an interesting recipe: http://www.eattheweeds.com/ringless-honey-mushrooms/

You could wait for a second or third opinion but I fairly certain they are an Armillaria of some type.
