Don't dunk before spawn- makes them harder to grate.
To induce fruiting you remove the tape from the holes and replace with polyfil, loose in the top holes, tight in the bottom, and run an indirect fan in the room. The polyfil fitted that way causes air to be sucked in from the top, and forced down across the top of the sub and out the bottom holes. When done correctly it gives you perfect FAE.
You wait till it is 100% colonized to move it to fruiting. It only took me I think 7 days to colonize. But yeah you just let it sit.

Fair enough- I needed to run one before I felt the air flowing out of the bottom holes

What? You literally feel the co2 coming out from the bottom holes?

20 would need a big tub- and like you said you might want to not throw all your eggs in one basket and do 2 tubs. Unfortunately I've had this tub for ages so it doesn't have a sticker on it to let me know how big it is. Just imagine your hard in it, and find one that'll hold double or triple that in the bottom.
And yeah I literally can feel the air coming out.

You could also just case them in a couple trays and put those in your SGFC. Seems like people are prefering spawning cakes to bulk now. Gotta do some testing on it eventually and see how much is truly gained from the bulk, if anything.
--------------------
I spawned some popcorn casings and had double-overlay cause I didn't put enough hydrogen peroxide in my automated aquarium mister. I only got one mushroom so I cut off the head part where the seeds fall from and put it in a jar of LC and sprayed it all over a tin of PF cakes I made with gravel, cardboard, and bisquick in my microwave. I think it will be good cause B+ is so potent. Triggered yet? Only a square would say "a cube is a cube."
No, this does not look right...

There's too much noobness in this thread.
Spawn to bulk, or don't. Its up to you. I personally would opt for spawning to bulk, because I'm lazy and dealing with a SGFC is not something I feel like doing. You can get great yields on spawning cakes to tubs. Do whatever you want. A lot of what you will come to learn about this hobby will be obtained through experience. Spawn some to bulk, fruit some in a sgfc, play with some things and experiment.

I run 27 quart monotubs exclusively. 3 qts is standard, 4-5 qts is high spawn. I like having a lot of projects going and can't be fucked with those big tubs.
If you use something smaller drill less holes because you'll get to much FAE and have to case. I case all my minis. When I get into my new place I'll end up running those 66 qts for the lulz.

Casing them would basically just be another way to increase your space efficiency inside the sgfc since you place the cakes right next to eachother in a tray. It should reduce their moisture loss by reducing the exposed surface area, and add a bit of a water resevoir as well.
While there is still some "all eggs in one basket" with it, it will be pretty obvious where a contaminated cake was and you can cut it out, since it isn't all broken up and distributed like a bulk cake spawn.
http://www.fungifun.org/English/Casing
It just seems to be really out of fashion. It'd be cool if you case a tray, spawn another, and show the results, though there's always the multispore factor... Maybe you'd get a sense of which you prefer anyway.

Pasty pretty much always cases his stuff because of the dry environment he's in. I like casings as well. Case or not, your choice. But remember a proper casing is always beneficial. I never go without casing these days

Well i wasnt thinking as a fresh one, im asking would two sub that areant spent nd that are still flushing stacked create the same effect as stacked pf cakes? Or would that just be a haven for contams?
