Panaeolus spawn+substrate?

Greetings, I have a curiosity regarding Panaeolus cyanescens cultivation. Would it be a good idea to mix the spawn (bird seeds) with straw from the get go and add them in large jars for colonization via spore injection? Reasoning behind this is that Pan mycelia is vulnerable to infections and develops slower than other mushrooms, mixing both the spawn and substrate will eliminate the contamination possibility. Would they still require some casing or can the colonized mycelia be placed directly in fruiting chamber? Thank you

Intereting idea, I'm curious to see if that would work. Uusally people just make "poo cakes"- hpoo, brf, verm, gypsum, and water at equal ratios and inject into that once PC'd. But mixing straw and WBS might work, although the mycelium will take longer to colonize an entire quart jar rather than a half pint.

1 gram of pans is roughly equivalent to 3.5 grams of cubes

Don't use coir, pans need manure to colonize well. That's why I suggested making "poo cakes" to OP. They are effective and once fully colonized, you can break them up and spawn to a small 6 qt tub with about 70% straw to 30% hpoo and let it colonize. Then case with some jiffy mix and there ya go!

So, back to op. Do you think it will work? Will it need casing if it works? Thanks!

Pans don't fruit well in thicker substrates, that's why I suggested the smaller tubs(aim for 1.5" or less). You will get plenty of potent fruits from a 16 qt tub
And proper pasteurization is not that difficult, I'd invest in a digital meat thermometer, it's essential to getting the temps right!

Pans ALWAYS need a casing layer to fruit well. I suggest using a "jiffy seed starter mix" that's properly pasteurized. Lookup up FrankHorrigan's write-ups on casing.
