Would you mind articulating yourself properly next time?

Yeah I had other symptoms like absence of emotion, extreme anxiety, conceptual confusion / thought disorder.

But to think in particular that you friends pity you and feel a sense of obligation and that everyone else hates you... Sounds too much like my schizophrenia. I can't imagine a self-esteem problem producing this, unless you meant it lightly.

Is there a kind of overarching darkness in your life, like you feel the Apocalypse coming? People are evil? Cold, submissive fear/anxiety in response to facing this?

Pervading negative thoughts is a symptom of anxiety, not schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia is in a league of it's own to anxiety and should not be taken lightly, it is a destructive mental illness that can cause extreme delusional behavior and psychotic episodes such as hearing demons or seeing things that are not there.

Anxiety is not seeing or hearing things that aren't there.
Anxiety is a behavioral disorder where the individual has little to no control over their instinctive emotional reactions, it is the vestige of our ancestral flight or flight response to danger.

In modern times there's a lot more that sets of the response, not only physical dangers but emotional ones too. Judgement, rejection, fear, trust, betrayal etc. All of these emotions can spur a fight or flight response even though there is no physical danger.

Most of the time we as humans can't change how we feel about something, what we can change is how we react to our own feelings which is key to overcoming anxiety. This is done by practicing mindfulness of ones own emotions and improving emotional intelligence. You have to be able to recognise and label your emotions as soon as you feel them so that they don't overtake your thought cycle and create unnecessary anxiety.

Anxiety is the result of uncontrolled emotional responses.

Quote:

The term "schizophrenia" was first applied by American alienists and neurologists in private practice by 1909 and officially in institutional settings in 1913, but it took many years to catch on. It is first mentioned in The New York Times in 1925. Until 1952 the terms dementia praecox and schizophrenia were used interchangeably in American psychiatry, with occasional use of the hybrid terms "dementia praecox (schizophrenia)" or "schizophrenia (dementia praecox)".

Schizophrenia isn't a progressive disease, but it does get passed down from time to time into more insane people.

I guess it's a matter of how you interpret his text.
