Fresh vs Dry
    #22016091 - 07/29/15 05:10 PM (8 years, 5 months ago)

I know this might seem like a dumb topic, but I'm wondering if anyone has thoroughly experimented with the Fresh mushroom trip vs the Dry mushroom trip potency wise.

I've had fresh and dry mushrooms countless times, but never compared the experiences from the same grow or anything.
Has anyone here ever harvested a flush and ate some fresh before drying then compared the trips by eating some dry a couple days later? I know you can't really get the doses exactly right since wet mushies weigh so much more, but I'm sure you can estimate (I've always been told 10g wet = 1g dry but I'm not sure if that's entirely accurate).

I'm assuming since I haven't seen anyone bring this up that there is no difference but I'd really like to get some of your opinions.

I have noticed that when drying wild mushrooms, they end up weighing between 90 and 95% less, meaning that they must have been more than 90% water.

Any difference in the experience though? I'm about to harvest my first flush so it's making me curious about this shit lol. I might have to experiment for myself to see if I like them better fresh or dry (other then the taste because I like the taste of fresh mushies more)

It Depend on the amount of various psychoactive chemicals (species differences)
Fresh is more potent ... Dry results in 10-15% decrease in my experience
Which is small and probably not noted (compensate by taking 3.3 gm vice 3 gm)
Drying technique can have a little difference in amount lost (faster is better) as would storage and age
Smaller mushrooms probably lose more (higher surface to vol ratio)
Then there are the baeos that will lose 75-85% potency on drying

Still... Drying is a good way to preserve them

ive noticed from repeaat experiences thaat fresh shrooms very natural and "normal" and the experience feels very fresh, and sort of dreamy too.

As for dried, its slightly less natural and "normal" feeling. Definitely different qualities in the experience.

I have definitely noticed countless times that fresh mushrooms produce far more visual trips and less "stoning" effects. This is with wild picked Psilocybe subaeruginosa though. And everyone is different I guess. In my personal experience though, fresh is superior.

Fresh is always a much more vibrant and visual flowing trip for me.

Dried is a slightly less 'fresh' trip I guess for me.

Alright I'm going to be eating them fresh tonight. I've always found my trips to be different depending on fresh, dry, or in tea as well. But I've considered that maybe this was because I was picking the mushrooms at different times or buying them from different people. Anyways I appreciate you guys confirming my suspicions that fresh is better.

Same here....

I've never grown but have found patches of ps cyans and ps allenii, and I have most definitely noticed what you describe with fresh mushrooms. The times I have ate mushrooms fresh I definitely noticed a "lighter & fresher & cleaner" feeling about the trip, all around more vibrant & richer in all aspects of the experience. Notably more potent for the weight as well.

I enjoy fresh mushrooms so much that almost every time I harvested my wild patches last year I couldn't help but nibble on some specimens while they were still fresh, I felt compelled to eat those beautiful things....I actually enjoy the texture of fresh (woodlover) mushrooms too...om nom nom nom
